Start Jamming...
[Dm] All new Madonna, the makeup, the music, the exclusive conversation about her personal life
as she let us into her house [G] and on the set for her latest video.
[Bb] Next [F] on EP.
[C] [D] [N] Ten million copies worldwide, Madonna's latest album, Ray of Light, is an unqualified hit.
But we went exclusively behind the scenes for her new video from the album
and we talked with Madonna at her home about her stunning new look
and bold new dance moves in our Entertainment Tonight cover story.
[Dm]
[F] Madonna [C] has gone geisha.
Only ET was there [G] as cameras rolled for her latest music video, [F] Nothing Really [E] Matters.
Her new [D] look, which comes [E] complete with kimono, was inspired by the best-selling novel, Memoirs of a Geisha.
We [Dm] invited ET into her home where, in [Bb] front of a prized [F] Picasso, talked about her latest [G] incarnation.
The [D] whole idea of geisha is a [G] great metaphor for being [Fm] an [D] entertainer
because on the one hand you're privileged, but on the other hand you're a prisoner.
[F] [C]
[Am] That's my studio, [Bb] 54 and Mom in.
I don't [D] like other people's ideas [Gm] for how I should move.
I'm my [Dm] best choreographer.
[D] I always have to get comfortable in front of the [F] camera [D] and get [D] comfortable dancing on [F] a 12-inch platform.
All the makeup that it took to [D] transform herself into [G] a character from the book, a [Dm] geisha named Hatsumomo,
[Bb] wasn't lost on Madonna's two-and-a-half-year-old [G] daughter, Lourdes.
When [Dm] she arrived on the set, she said, Hi, Hatsumomo.
[D] I mean, she gets [A] it.
She completely understands.
[C] To hear Madonna tell it, little Lourdes is something of [Dm] a tech head.
My favorite time of the day is when she comes to me [A] and says, Mommy, can I [Bb] boot up?
[D] I mean, you know, and she, I know that the computer ultimately is bad
because she only throws a tantrum when she can't have two things.
[C] One is to play on the [Dm] computer and the other is candy.
While life is sweet, with motherhood and music taking up most of her time,
[D] recent reports had Madonna ready to hop into the director's chair to call the shots on the video for Cher's song, Dove l [Bb]'amore.
When I first heard it, I was like, Oh, my [D] God, this has to be the first single.
I'm directing the [Dm] video.
And of course, I don't have time to direct the [C] video, but I liked [Gm] saying it.
It sounded good.
Although it sounds like directing isn't in her immediate future, [Dm] acting is.
In April, she'll begin work starring [A] opposite real-life friend Rupert Everett in The Next Best Thing.
It's the story of what happens when a [D] woman and her gay best friend decide to have a baby together.
It's also a great, [Gb] you know, relationship.
I mean, let's face it, I'm a big old fag hag.
And, [G] you know, it's just a [A] great relationship with me and my gay [F] best friend.
[Gm] After her work on the film, Madonna says she may go out [Dm] on tour again.
But as a working single mother, although an amazingly well compensated one,
[C] she is also conscious [Gm] of the need to put down some roots, especially for Lourdes' sake.
[D] By the time she's four, I would be staying in one place for [F] sure.
It won't be LA and it won't be Miami.
[Gm]
[Dm] It might be Bulgaria.
Nothing really [C] [D] matters.
Madonna told us that she will again don the geisha girl look to perform at the Grammy Awards,
live from Los Angeles two weeks from Wednesday on CBS.
It's called Nothing Really Matters.
But what does really matter to the material girl is constantly coming up with new means of expression.
And, of course, what really matters to us is that Madonna gave us the world premiere of her finished music video.
From the best-selling novel [Am] Memoirs of a Geisha,
[C] she'll appear as [Gm] Hatsu again when she performs live at the Grammy [Dm] Awards.
But she's keeping the rest of her plans a secret.
Oh, that would be telling, grasshopper.
[Eb] [Eb]
[Bb] The Grammys should be a [Eb] big night for Madonna.
She's nominated in five [Bb] categories, an honor that struck her like a ray of light.
It just flattened me right out.
Yeah, I was completely in shock.
I never get nominated for anything in the Grammy categories.
It's hard to [Bb] believe, but the perennial chart-topper has never been nominated for album or record of the year.
But it's worth the wait.
I guess that's my [C] karma, that's my destiny.
It [Dm] made me work really hard to be [C] really good.
I don't know, I don't really have [Gm] any complaints.
[Dm] Love is all [Gm] we need.
[Dm] Last night, Madonna set out to prove that love [G] is all we need
at a press conference [D] celebrating her part in an Esquire cover story
that [Dm] decries America's [C] complacency about the AIDS crisis.
It's [Gm] time for all of us to recommit [Dm] to finding a cure
[G] and to continue to help people with AIDS and HIV.
Love [Gm] is all we need.
[Bb] Madonna's complete Nothing Really Matters video premieres over the weekend on [D] VH1 and MTV.
