[C#m] This next song is one that has probably gotten a little more relevant to me even as time has gone on as far as [A#]
how I look at things.
About nine years [C#] ago, there was a story in the news that there [C#m] was a Christian college in the southeastern part of the United States
that had decided that the people who attend this college would sign a pledge that they would not date or marry anyone of a different race.
In fact, I think that's where Steve Taylor's song, We Don't Need No Color Code, came from, the same incident.
And [F#] when I saw this on [A] TV, [C#m] this guy who was waving a Bible around and talking like a racist, it ticked me off.
[A#] It made me [C#] lament and grieve over [A#] all the things that get made part of the gospel that aren't part of it.
Not only just [D#m] wrong-headed things, but other things [C#] as well.
Some people have a lot of trouble with this, but there are real sincere Christians who disagree about a lot of stuff.
There are some Christians who feel that you once saved, always saved.
Others feel that you have to persevere.
You've got dunkers on one hand and sprinklers on the other hand.
[D#m] You've got those who worship in the liturgy and those who are kind of swimming from the chandeliers.
[F#] You've got those who are teetotalers and those who feel [C#] like, hey, it's okay to have a beer with a hot dog once in a while.
And you see, [D#m] it's okay to have an opinion about [C#m] these sorts of things.
In fact, I think you probably ought to have an opinion.
But when [A#m] that opinion becomes part and parcel of the gospel, then people are able to reject the gospel on a basis
that doesn't even have anything to [C#] do with it.
And that irritates me.
It irritates me to see [C#m] these guys burning books and trying to pull Huck Finn out of [C#] the library
and getting into these big arguments about rock and roll music.
I would hate for some unbeliever to not become a Christian because he's convinced that God votes Republican.
[A]
There are times [B] when I feel kind of militant about it.
I think, okay, Bennett, [C#m] you've got a big mouth.
You've got an opinion.
[A] Go ahead.
Say [G#m] what you think ought to be said.
There are other times when [A#] I just want to pull the curtains [F#] closed and unplug the phone and just [C#m] be with the Lord.
My attitude is [A] kind of like, Lord, you're okay.
[C#m] It's just all these people that you insist on hanging [Bm] around with.
[A] [C#m] So this is a song about that.
It's called Madness Dancing.

[D] Joy is like a flashing [A] time.
[F#m] I don't want to burn no [E] books, no one argue rock and roll.
[C#m] I don't want to shoot [A] anyone with my high-powered [F#] doctor gun.
[Bm] Madness all around, [F#m] I'm a hungry beast.
[E] There's no one who can see what [F#m] happened to [A] our beast.
[D]
[A]
[E] [D] Some [A] think this morning, and what we [E] eat.
Yes, [F#m] I listened, then [D] I found.
[F#] But [F#m] I was not alone.
I was standing, [E] moving, [A] dancing, [E] dancing, a holy [A] crowd.
I don't want to burn [E] no books, no one argue rock and [Bm] roll.
[A] I don't want to shoot anyone with my high-powered doctor [B] gun.
Madness all [C#] around, I'm a hungry beast.
[F#] [A] There's no one who can see
[A] what [F#m] happened to our [C#m] beast.
[A] No one will miss me.
[F#m] No one will care for
[A] me.
We don't [E]
[A] understand madness.
[D]
[E] [A] You don't understand it's all I have.
You don't understand it's all I'm wanting.
