[F] It brings [C] a tear
[G] [Abm]
flowing [F] to [C] my eye
[F] [Cm]
when I [F] begin
[Bb] [F]
to realize
[Gb]
[C] you know [B] I cried [Gb] so [C]
much
[Ab]
since you've been [Am] gone
I'm absolutely sure that if you [Ab] asked a black blues [G] musician
whether [F] his life was enhanced, I think they'd say yeah.
I mean that would probably [G] be the better person to ask.
I don't know for myself how far the ripple has spread
but I mean Robert Johnson is a household name now.
[A] Oh I [G] just sit [F] [Cm] and
[G] ooh [C] just like a child
The United States suddenly started paying tribute
to a wonderful legacy of the roots of rock and roll and blues
and by this [F] reverse sort of triggering mechanism
that came [E] from all of those [Cm] things in England, the bands going back
and hey you see the Rolling Stones when they first landed
they're all talking about muddy waters and people you know
and people are going like [E] who the hell's he?
That you're gonna [Ab] be [Am] on soon
[Gm] Oh [F] it's alright
[Gb] I believe I'm [C] gonna [Db] drown
[C] [D]
[F] In my [C] own tears
[F] [C] [F] [C] The Brits took what the Americans
[F] culturally threw into the trash bin.
There was a definite move to [C] trash that [F] culture
[Cm] and keep it away from white kids.
Oh [C] some rain
[Gb] [G] I know [F] some rain is gonna [C]
fall
There was probably a feeling in the early days of blues, English blues
of
[F] wanting to bring this music to people's attention
to [C] show them what an interesting wonderful form it was.
That it just [D] keeps raining
[Dm] [D]
Without [G]
[C]
it [Ab] I don't think American black musicians
[Am] and black blues [C] players would have really made it
to the extent that they have
because if you talk to any of them they'll say
well these English guys they came over
and [Gb] they spread the word [N] about us
and they made a larger awareness [C] on a world scale.
[B] Cause if you [C] don't think
That [E]
you're gonna be home [Am] soon
[Gm] Oh I [F]
[Eb] believe I'm gonna [C] drown [Gm] [Cm] [F] [Cm] in my tears
It gave people a chance to play [Fm] and to [Cm] be somebody
and to do something with [F] their music.
People who were disregarded and worth [C] nothing at the time [F] over there
[C] as the traditional jazz rebel [Eb] had.
It gave people, [Fm] Americans, something to feel they'd done something
to be important, the [Am] music to be important.
[E] Drown [Cm] in my [Dm] [Cm] tears With [F] [Am] umbrella
[Cm] Drown in [F] my [Cm] tears
Black American culture if you want to call it, which it is
[Eb] the greatest art form that came out of America [Fm] really.
Modern America.
[C]
[F] [Cm] Sing a song tonight
[F] Sing a [C] song tonight
[Gm] [Cm] If it wasn't for the British musicians
a lot of us black [D] musicians in America
[Gm] would [F] still be catching the hell that we caught long before.
So [E] thanks to them, [Dm]
thanks to all you guys
you opened doors that I don't think would have been open in my [G] lifetime.
Thank you very much.
