Long Long Time | Mary Beth Anthony Interview, talks about the Linda Ronstadt Song and Serendipity chords

[G] When I lived in Los Angeles, [Am] I really didn't have a place to rehearse before gigs, so the [F] place I would rehearse was in my [C] bathroom.
In my apartment.
Because that's all we, [G] that's all I had was my apartment.
I didn't have a home, and that's where I rehearsed.
My [Am] humble bathroom.
This is where I do most of my singing.
[C] So I would stand in the bathroom, I'd pull out my set list, and
for two to three hours, I would do my warm [G]-ups,
and I would sing all the songs on my list, [Am] my set list, before a gig every week
when I was [F] gigging out there.
The neighbors [C] never complained,
so I think it was okay.
[Am]
[G] So recently, I was looking for [C] a studio to re-record Blue Bayou, [Am]
[G] a
song that I had been performing for many years, [F] and
I started doing some [Am] research where could I [G] record this, and the studio that I found, a
lot of people recorded here, a lot of [F] names that I'm sure a lot of people would recognize.
[G] One of them was Linda Ronstadt, and I thought, my dang, [C] I have to check that out.
[G] So I went and checked out the studio, and I was in the studio [C] bathroom,
and I saw the cover [G] of the album she [F] recorded here on the wall, and I thought, [Am] well, I'm [G] here.
I might as well sing one of the songs on the [F] list.
I only recognized [Am] one of the [G] songs.
I vaguely recalled hearing [F] it, so I re-listened to it, [Am] and I thought,
[G] gosh, I have to do this [F] song.
I [Am] have to do this song.
[G] It was like it was
[A] serendipity.
I won't be sitting down
to use the bathroom.
[E] So I chose to sing the song Long, Long [D] Time, and it turns out that Linda Ronstadt sang in this very studio [A] that I'm
singing in [E] today, and she recorded
[D] oddly in the bathroom.
[Gbm] So I was used to singing [E] in a bathroom because that is how I would prepare for gigs, as I was singing [D] in my bathroom
for [Gbm] privacy.
[Gb]
[Em] [Eb] But Long, Long Time [Bb] quickly became so personal and [Eb] so real to me.
[Dm] I [Bb] became very connected to it.
I connected to it [Gm] on a much deeper level [Bb] and in a much different way than I [Gm] expected,
way beyond the [Eb] surface level.
It hit [F] me deep.
It was eerie, [Eb] and I thought, this is me.
[Bb] This is me.
[Eb] The studio was eerie.
The whole [F] vibe was [Bb] eerie.
I felt [Eb] the sadness so [Dm] deep.
Also, [Bb] I literally did not sleep the night before [Gm] shooting the music video.
I'm an [Bb] independent artist, [Gm] and I had to be [Eb] very resourceful and creative
[Dm] producing this video on a [Eb] dime, and [Ab] I mean a dime.
[Eb] [Fm] [Db]
[Ab] [Eb] [Fm] So [C]
I'm honored [Am] to sing.
Whoever thought that singing in a [F] bathroom would be an honor?
[Fm] But I feel very [C] honored and very lucky that I stumbled across this place,
and [G] I'm singing in the same bathroom as [Am] Linda Ronstadt.
So I believe it was serendipity [C] that this happened.
I used to rehearse in my apartment bathroom, and then
[Em] oddly, [G] I find this unique studio [Am] where I could pay tribute to this beautiful [F] song in a bathroom.
