[Fm] Okay, so I know a lot of people out there have been complaining about our treatment
of amp modeling lately, so I figured what the hell.
I gave Line 6 a call up, and we got them to send us over the Pod X3 Live, and I'm going
to test it.
Now, I may not be the best guitarist in the world, but I do know a thing or two about
programming effects pedals.
So I'm going to go through, show you the settings, and I'm going to have either Owen or Henry
play depending on who I can get, you know, we're busy here at GearWire.
And we're going to open the box, but first of all, I know a lot of you missed the out
of the box segment, so I'm going to show you the box.
This is the box.
It's gigantic.
You can see how big this is compared to me.
And it comes with a nice fold out.
It's kind of like a magazine.
Open the inside, and we have manuals and all sorts of things.
But you know what?
Screw that.
We don't want to see the manual.
We want to see the pedals.
So let's move over, and we're going to take a look at some of the presets and basic in
out functions on the Live X3.
Here it is, the Pod X3 Live, the next evolution in the series of multi-effects processors
from Line 6, the last one being the Live XT you may remember from a few years ago.
Now, what can you do with this?
You can use it to add effects to your guitar, bass, or using a microphone.
You'll notice there's an input microphone here.
You can actually add vocal effects and switch them up using the tone control.
There's a tone 2 switch right here, and you can switch between guitar tone and mic tone,
and it will switch between the two sources.
What's really cool is that you can actually use the presets way up here to add effects
to your vocals.
You'll see here it says bright clean vocal.
We have a rockabilly vocal, what's called a jolly vocal, and a megaphone vocal.
Really cool.
But moving on, let's take a look at the basic layout.
It's a pretty similar layout to an amp.
You'll notice you have drive, bass, mid, treble, presence, reverb, tone volume, and a master volume control.
Now, above your standard amp control, you'll also notice that we have a ground and lift
switch for your direct out signal, an amp and line output switch.
Now this is, if you're feeding it to an amp, you can select here.
If you're going straight to a board, select line.
We also have a guitar pad.
This is for padding your guitar coming in or out.
You can switch to off or on.
Now another important feature of the Pod X3 Live is the volume wah pedal.
You'll notice that this can control the volume separately for either tone one, tone two,
or both together.
And I'll get into the programming of that in a little bit.
One thing to note is that when you switch a patch, all of these knobs and the pedal reset.
So when you go to switch those up, you may notice a jump in gain.
That's one thing to keep in mind when programming patches for your live guitar playing.
Now one thing that's nice about the X3 Live is that everything is in one place.
We have our stomp boxes, our modulation, delay, and compressor all in one place.
In order to edit the reverb, we have to go into the computer.
But the same is true of all these as well, even though their vacuum switches are here.
One thing also to note is that right here we have tone two.
This is a switch between tone one and tone two.
We can also hold that down and it will switch over to dual mode, which will play tone one
and tone two at once, or remove them from being linked to each other.
Now the variable pedal can control a variety of options.
We talked a little bit about volume, but it can also be used as a wah pedal, a volume
and a wah pedal, and can also be combined with the option to tweak parameters.
This allows you to tweak options in your distortion, compressors, delay, and other effects that
come with the Line 6 Pod X3 Live.
Now editing within the Line 6 Pod X3 Live is pretty simple.
You'll notice there are a variety of switches here that do different things.
You'll have the home switch here.
This just takes you back to your main display when you're not in your main patch display.
If you hold it down, it'll take you over to a command panel that'll allow you to swap
tone one and tone two, or reset your user presets.
There's also the input button.
Switch this to change up the source for tone one.
In this case it's set to mic.
We can change that over to aux.
Guitar plus aux, vari-ax.
Guitar vari-ax, guitar aux and vari-ax.
The same goes for tone two.
We can switch up what is going into tone two.
