[Em] [E]
Tell [B] me about this.
That's one of the original World Series I [E] used to use in the 70s.
You used this?
Yeah, oh yeah.
[Dbm] This was a [C] [Ab] rich girl probably.
[A] Really?
You name it, in the 70s.
Probably Sarah [Ab] Smile, how's that?
[Db] I'm realizing, [Gbm] just as I'm saying it, that's what I wrote Sarah [Am] Smile on.
That is incredible.
[Dm] There you go, man.
[Em] [Bb]
[Abm] [A] Now the [Eb] interesting thing [E] about Jimmy Wayne is [B] that he actually [Am] is here because [B] he played
[Abm] Sarah Smile in his show and [B] has been doing it for [Dbm] years and got a major record [A] company
interested through Sarah.
So [Eb] once again, that [Am] song gives somebody some [A] life.
[E]
I was returning a [Abm] rental suit because I was [Db] singing at weddings, [C]
doing [A] anything I could
do to make a little extra money, you know, paying rent.
[E] And on my way out, I found this Hall & Oates greatest hit CD and I bought it.
I bought it for a dollar.
At the [Am] time, I was [E] working at a prison.
I was a correctional officer at a state prison.
And [Bb]
I was on the mid-yard one night and I was singing it and this [E] officer, he said,
man, you ought to record that song.
And I was like, [D] how in the world am I going to do that?
I didn't know the first thing [Bm] about recording or anything.
[B] Always take the advice of another [C] prison guard.
Maybe he was an A&R guy.
[A]
I don't [E]
know, a couple years later when I [Abm] moved to Nashville, I'd sang that song quite
a bit and [B] played it at every show, every radio [A] station in America when I was doing my first radio tour.
[Abm] I was told a couple of times not to sing it because [Dbm] it wasn't officially what they [Eb] considered
to be country, but [Bb] I just believed in it so much because [A] it was a great song.
[B] That's all it was to [Am] me.
Isn't that the [A] strangest thing when you [E] get that kind of stuff?
That [Abm] still exists, isn't it?
[E] It's really amazing how people still [Am] [Eb] try and put things into slots [B] even though there's
no reason for them to be there.
[D] But that happens.
That happens in [E] every format.
[B] There's a guy named Scott Bruchetta who [A] I met with and my intentions to meet with this
guy wasn't to get a record deal.
I thought I was getting a publishing deal.
And again, [E] I was playing him a [B] song that I didn't even write.
I just played Sirus Ma.
And [C] I remember leaving his office thinking that was a [E] good meeting.
Co-writer called me and said, [D] congratulations man, you got a record deal and you're going
to make a [Gbm] record in a couple of months.
[Gb] That's great man.
That's a fantastic [Am] story.
So that [Ab] song has been my sword and shield man.
It's been [Gb] there the whole time.
I'm [Abm] here man.
I'm a beautiful version of it too.
[Gb]
When I heard it, it really blew me away because [Am] you caught the essence [E] of it [A] effortlessly.
[Abm] You did it so on it.
So [D] I was [Bb] very [Ab] impressed with your version of [Am] it.
Thanks for writing it.
[E]
When I asked you [C] guys the question [D] about when y'all [B] laid it [A] down, y'all laid it down like
one or two times and that was it.
We just basically [Gbm] did the song.
That [A] was incredible.
I mean, because that's the way [E] to me it should be done.
Yeah.
I mean, I don't think there was more than two, three takes of that song.
There wasn't a lot of overdubbing or [A] anything like that.
[Bm] Did you think it was going to be as big as it was?
[A] I had no [Abm] idea.
I mean, that [D] song, that was the third single from [Db] that silver album.
And we had pretty much [B] given up on that album when we were over in Europe [C] about nine months
after we had [E] released it.
And we heard [A] that these R&B stations were playing it in the [E] Midwest.
[Gbm] That's how it turned [E] all around.
[Abm] [Db] [Ab] Funny song.
It sneaks up on people.

Sarah, [Bb] [C]
[Dm] if you feel like [Am]
leaving, [C] you know you can go.
[Bb] Why don't you stay until [A] tomorrow?
[Dm] If you want to be free, [C]
you [Bb] know all you've got to do [Am] right now is say so.
[Bb] You [C] feel the cold of [Dm] warmth.
When [Gm] you feel you can't [C] go on, I'll come [Eb] and hold
[Dm] you.
It's [Gm] you and [F] me forever.
[Dm]
[Am] Sarah, [Bb]
[Db] won't [Dm] you smile a while [Am] for me?

Come [Db] on.
[Dm] You know how that [Am] makes me feel.
You [Bb] know how that [F] makes me feel.
Say [Dm] you'll smile a while [Am] for me.
[Bb] [Db] Oh, oh, oh.
[Dm] Smile a while [Am] for me.
Sarah, [Bb] Sarah, Sarah.
Oh, Sarah, [Dm] [Am] Sarah, smile.
