Well, hi, [Am]
[G] I'm Johnny [Am] Reyes and thank you [F] for joining us for this new song cafe here at Worship Together.
Today, I'm joined by Ben Tan, Laura Toggs and Aiden King from Hillsong Young & Free.
How are you guys?
Very good, thanks.
Good, Laura's?
Yep, we're good.
Okay.
Today, we're going to be talking about a song called Let Go, which was the third single
from the Young & Free album.
So, why don't we dive in and talk about it after we hear this acoustic version.
[Cm]
[Am] [C] [G]
[F] [C] [Am]
[C] [G] [C]
[Am]
[C]
[F] [C] [Am]
[C] [Dm]
[C]
So, [Am] let go.
And [C] I let love.
Show [Am] me life like it's supposed [C] to be.
[D] On [F] [C] oasis, [Am] here awaits us.
All [C] the freedom I'll ever need, [G] now I'm [F] alive.
[Cm] Oh la la, Oh [Am] la la.
Well I let [G] go, then [C] I find life.
Oh la la, oh [Am] la la, when I [C] let go [G] then I [Dm] find [C] love
The [Am] highway is calling [C] me to a life unlike before
The father's [Am] heart is [C] beckoning and [G] I [C] can't resist no more
Lead me in the [Am] ways of devotion, [C] I don't wanna [G] get caught in the [Dm] motions
My [F] heart is only for you Lord, oh
[C] [Am] So [F] I [C] let go and I let love show [Am] me life like it's supposed [Em] to be
[F] On oasis, [C] here awaits us, all the [Am] freedom I'll ever [C] need, [G] now [C] I'm [F] alive
[C] Oh la la, oh la [Am] la, when I [C] let go then [Am] I [C] find love
Oh la la, oh la [Am] la, when I let [G] go then I [F] find [C] love
[Am]
Oh [G] la la, oh [C] la la, [Am] when I [G] let go then I find [C]
love
[F] [A] There you go.
Very good.
So that version is obviously pretty much the exact opposite to how it sounds on the record
with an acoustic guitar just like we heard now.
Do you mind just taking us through what you were playing real quick?
As you put the guitar down.
I'll take it.
Well Ben can probably testify that I'm playing [Abm] some wrong chords in here.
That was good.
Really?
Thanks.
That was awesome.
Thanks man.
Alright so verses are, so I'm in the key of C, [C] verses are 4, [F] so
[C] F, A minor, [A] C, [G] G, right?
Verses, same for the pre which is Leaving the Ways of Devotion, [Dm] but then it goes to the 2, [Am] walks up, [C] 4 to the 5.
Then the chorus is 4, 1, [Am]
[G] 6, 5.
[F] And then on the track the drop chords are different, starts off the 2 but I'm just playing it the same all the way through
which is just 4, [A] 1, [G] 6, 5.
[Ab] Cool.
So yeah, pretty straight forward.
So obviously there's 3 of you writers on the song.
How did [G] the song come about initially?
How did it start?
[A] [N] We all started it in the same room.
It kind of, this song has been probably, it's been the Everest of songs.
Trying to get this one done.
We started on a piano in one of the writing rooms here at church.
And we had the verse and pre-chorus, but no chorus, nothing else really.
But we knew, I think we really believed in those sections.
And that was probably a year and a half [Ab] ago.
Wow.
So it's been, and we kind of only cracked the rest of it probably in the last 2 months.
Lorsi, what does the song mean to you thematically?
Well I guess every single person on their journey gets to the point
where you make a decision, are you in or are you out kind of thing.
[Dm] And for me I think when we came up with that pre,
which is I was on the edge of deception, caught up in my own hesitation
and then your love took over me so I let go,
that kind of just then brought the whole song together,
what we were trying to say.
And for all of us I think we can all kind of relate to a moment in our lives
where we made that clear decision, like we're all in,
this life of devotion, devotion that we have to God but also His devotion to us.
And just kind of giving ourselves completely to that,
letting go of our own selves and our own ways
and the ways that we kind of, I guess, imagine life to be.
And I guess surrendering and trusting the ways that God has for us.
So yeah, it's a cool song.
It's fun, just like, you know, good vibes.
Awesome.
It's fun.
It's fun.
It's really fun.
Yeah.
I was playing it a lot slower probably and a bit more like chill.
Let go the ballad.
Yeah, let go the ballad.
Yeah.
Well guys, thank you so much for joining me, Ben, Laura and Aidan,
talking about Let Go, which is another amazing high energy praise song
that's typical of Young & Free.
So thanks for coming in.
Thanks, Jonny, for having us.
