[Gm]
I'm Leslie West.
I [B] play guitar.
And I was born in Queens, October 22, [Eb] 1945.
[Cm] I'm a legend in my own [Eb] lunchtime.
[C]
[Ebm] [Bbm]
My idea of perfect happiness is making sure my guitar's in [E] tune.
That's the most important thing.
[Db] My greatest fear is [Eb] not waking up.
When I go to sleep, I want to make sure I'm breathing in the morning.
My brother said if we're breathing in [D] the morning, it's a good day.
The person I most admire is [G] Eddie Van Halen.
He got me playing the guitar again.
And I wish I played like him in the first place.
Characteristic that I most dislike in myself is I got a big mouth.
And I yell too much.
Characteristic I most dislike in others, unfortunately,
is that they get mad at me when I open my big mouth.
What I'm most excessive about in my life is Krispy Kreme donuts.
It made me very fat.
It made me diabetic.
And they have to be the best freaking donuts
on the face of the earth.
I consider the most overrated virtue saving for a rainy day.
My grandpa used to say to me, save for a rainy day.
And I always said [Db] to him, it's raining somewhere, grandpa.
When do I lie?
When I used to go to the drug clinic and they asked me if I was [D] clean that day.
And I would give them a story.
Like right now, I'm very clean.
I [Eb] think the place I'd most like to live is London.
I lived there for a while.
And I just enjoy it.
It's a little slower than New York.
And I like the accent.
Talent I'd most like to have is I'd love to be a porn star.
Because I can [E] keep going for hours and hours.
It's very thrilling.
Even though you don't know if they're doing it or not doing it,
it just looks like they are.
I guess getting off my ass doing the show, [B] especially when we're doing it
daily every night.
And it's a certain routine.
And after the show is the best feeling.
[F] Getting up in the morning is all right.
But right before we go on, I'm nervous.
And I want to get the hell out of the way.
What gives me the most satisfaction is when I feel like I did a great show,
when I feel like I play good.
I do care about the band sounding good.
And if I feel like we did good, no matter what the audience thinks,
I want to think that.
[Gb]
I think what I regard the lowest depth of despair
is when I was strung out years ago on drugs.
And it was disgusting.
It really brought me down to a low, big, fat low.
It was despair when I would run out.
But when you first cop the drugs, it was great.
Thought I was going to improve [G] my guitar playing.
Had nothing to do with it.
But now that I'm straight, I feel so happy.
Still a prick, but I'm very happy.
My most obvious characteristic, I guess,
I don't give [Ab] people a chance to talk.
I got the answer before they were ready to speak.
I think if I just held back a little bit and let somebody get it out,
I'd be better off.
Although, you know what?
Hell with it.
I think the place I was the happiest was in [Abm] May
when I was on this boat ride with my girlfriend in Stockholm, Sweden.
And I didn't think we were ever going to come back.
And I was over the Baltic Sea.
Very exciting.
Very exciting.
My [Gm] favorite word, I guess it's two words.
Motherfucker.
I just love saying that word.
I don't know what it means, but I just love saying it.
You mother-f-er.
I just gets [G] a lot of stuff out.
Oh, my favorite sound's got to be plugging in my guitar for the first time.
[D] I hear that chord come out.
It makes my [Gm] balls vibrate.
I get very excited.
My favorite food, I think, is bangers.
British [G] sausages.
I love them.
I don't [Gm] know why.
I just like the name.
It's like American meatloaf.
It's peasant food.
I'm a peasant.
I think [C] a profession [Gm] I'd hate to be in is I'd hate to be a proctologist.
I have no [G] desire to look up people's asses.
I don't think there's any purpose for it.
And I've often wondered, what [Gm] would make a guy want to choose that as his profession?
You could be a finger doctor.
You could be a bone doctor.
But a [G] proctologist?
[Db]
My greatest achievement was getting myself off heroin.
I didn't think that [E] was ever going to happen.
And then getting myself straight.
I can appreciate life and [Dm] not wake up in [E] the morning sick and not have to worry about [D] trying to cop and so on and so forth.
And then concentrate on playing the guitar again.
I'd love to win a Grammy Award because I'm not showing up unless I'm nominated.
I'm not going to the MTV Awards unless I'm [Eb] nominated.
VH1.
Or maybe we'll get nominated now that Ozzy Osbourne did one of my songs, Mississippi Queen.
I'll show up with him.
[Abm] I think what makes me feel safe [A] and secure is knowing that all the money is in the safe deposit.
[Ab] When I spend time with my girlfriend, [N] I guess playing the guitar makes me feel [C] very safe and secure.
I don't know if I have a motto that I [G] live by, but what I'm going to tell you, you might seem, is, oh, he's full of crap.
But somebody once said to me, God respects those that work, [Cm] but he loves those that [C] sing.
I guess [D] if you're creative, it's [Cm]
an extra special treat rather than [G] getting up and going to [D] nine to five jobs [Cm] delivering newspapers.
Not that it's a bad profession, but I'd much [D] rather be making music.
[C]
