[A] Hi everybody, [E] I'm Allison Bennett and today I'm going to show you how to play Led Zeppelin's Kashmir.
You're going to need to use a dadgad tuning.
So you're going to tune the 6th, 2nd, and 1st string lower or down a whole step to D,
A, and D.
And you can leave the 4th, 3rd, and 2nd strings alone.
Alright, let's get started.
Let's start with the 1st finger at the 2nd fret, 3rd string, and the 4th finger at the
5th fret, 5th string.
You're going to strum strings 5, 4, and 3, 3 times, and then rest.
[D] [E] And I do a down up down there.
Now this is only the very first time.
We don't do this again.
Then we're going to stay here and strum it 3 more [D] times, then pluck the 6th string open.
[E] Next, move your 1st [Eb] finger to the 3rd fret and strum 3 times, rest, [Bb] and then 3 [Eb] times
and 6th string open.
[D] [E] Then we're going to go to the 4th fret, 3rd string.
I like to switch out my pinky for my 2nd finger here.
You can do whatever feels good for you.
And [B] again, with the 3 strums rest, 3 strums [D] open.
[Gm] And then this note on the 3rd string continues to [F] ascend.
Now it's at the 5th fret, so we've got 2 fingers on the 5th fret.
And [E] same pattern with 3 strums rest, 3 strums [D] open.
And then finally, [E] the note on the 3rd string moves up a whole step to the 7th fret.
I'm using my pinky here.
Most people would probably want to use their 3rd finger.
[Eb] And we've still [F] got the lower note on the [Eb] 5th fret, 5th string.
Strumming 3 times and then a [D] rest.
[Eb] And then we transition back to [G] the 2nd fret and go back to the beginning,
which was 3 strums and an open.
[D] I'm going to do the entire thing from the beginning [B] without talking.
[D]
[Bb]
[Bb] [D]
And it just [E] repeats over and over again.
[Bb] When you're ready to transition to [Eb] the next part,
[G] the riff is going to end here at the 5th and 5th frets.
You're never going to make it to this 7th fret one.
Now let's take a look at the next riff.
First I'll go through it slowly without talking.
I'm going to take it from riff 1 the last time so you can hear the transition.
[D] [Bb]
[D]
[Dm] [D]
[Bb] [D]
[G] So we are beginning at the 12th fret, strings 1 and 3.
I'm going to strum the top 4 strings.
[G] And I'm using my 2nd and 3rd fingers here.
Then the 1st string note stays.
And you lift off your 2nd finger and put your 1st finger down on the 11th fret.
[D] Strum at one time.
And that pattern [B] is going to continue [G] to repeat.
Next go to the 10th fret.
[Am]
[E] That's 10 to 9 on the 3rd string.
[A] And 10 stays on the 1st string.
So all together.
[F] [Am] [D]
Next go to the 7th fret.
And the strum here is going to be a little bit faster.
[A] Then the 5th fret.
[G]
[Gm] And the 3rd fret.
[Dm]
So [G] all together it sounds like this.
[D] [A]
[G] [Dm] And then finally go to the 4th string 3rd [F] fret.
Pluck just that string.
[E] Then 4th string 2nd fret.
And 4th [D] string open.
And [G] when you pluck the open, start to move immediately back to the 12th fret.
[D]
[G] [E] So you can get there on time to make the repeat.
[Dbm] So that part is going to repeat over and over again.
And when you go back to the [F] 1st riff, you don't start it at the beginning.
[Dbm] You actually start it on the [E] 3rd fret and 5th fret.
So let me play that transition from riff 2 back to riff [Bb] 1.
So you can work on [Em] connecting them.
[A]
[A] [Bb] [D]
[D]
[Bb] So that's all there is to it.
