[F] Hi there Ukamaniacs, this is Ben Blakesey from [Ab] George's Music with the Uke Club Lesson
of the Month.
This month we're going to be delving into the very popular ukulele song right now, [D] Over
the Rainbow, as performed by the ukulele artist [Ab] affectionately known as Izz.
[F] One caveat here is that Izz likes [G] to use a low G string instead of this high [Bb] G string.
I'm going to adapt that slightly so [F] that you can use it on a standard tuned uke.
[Bb] This song is pretty simple, it's got about [G] 5 chords in it, and I'm going to teach them
to you right now, the fingering, so that you can join with me for the rest of the song.
The first chord is a C major chord, one of the easiest chords on the ukulele, and that
uses your third finger, your ring finger, on the third fret of the first string.
[Cm]
There's your C major chord.
The next chord is going to be an E minor chord, which uses [D] your first finger on the second
fret of the first string, your second finger on the third fret of the [Ab] second string, and
your third finger on the fourth fret of the third [Em] string.
A nice minor chord [Ab] there.
The next chord is going to be an F [G] chord, which uses your first [Bb] finger on the second
string, the first fret, [C] right here, and your second finger, middle finger, on the second
fret of [F] the fourth string.
That's your [C] F major chord.
And [N] then, we're also going to be needing to use a G chord, which for [G] guitarists is like
that D shape, [Bb] so that's going to be first finger on the second fret of the third string,
second finger on the second fret of the first string, and your third finger, ring finger,
on the third fret of the second [G] string.
There's your G major [Bb] chord.
The only other chord we're going to be using today is the A minor chord, which is [Gb] another
very simple chord to use.
That is your first finger, or alternately your second finger, [Bb] depending on how you want
to finger it, on the fourth string, the [Am] second fret.
And there's your [N] A minor chord.
So to kind of put them in a sequence for you, there are two sections to this song.
One is what we'll call the verse, and one is what [Eb] we'll call the chorus.
[D] And we'll start off with the verse here.
It's going to be C [Em] to E minor [F] to F to [C] C, then [F] we go back to the F, and then [Cm] C, [G] G, [Am] A minor,
[F] and F.
[C] It'll make a lot more sense when we do it in time.
So let's get a nice [Gb] little rhythm here.
It's got a traditional ukulele [Cm] rhythm.
[Em]
[F] [Cm]
[F] [Cm]
[G]
[Am] [F] [Cm] So again, we'll start over with C to [Em] E minor, [F] F, [Ab] C.
[C] Back to the F, [F]
[Cm] to [G] G, [Am] A minor, and F.
C to E minor, [F] to F.
[C] And that's [C] the whole verse part.
So if we want to sing a little bit of [Cm] that while we do it, we can do it like this.
[Em]
[F] [Cm]
[F] [C]
[Gbm] [Am]
[F] [Cm] So that's the verse part, and you can go through the [B] rest of the verses in that same manner.
[Bb] Now the only other part is going to be,
[D] [Bb]
and that part is even simpler.
[Cm] It goes from the C [G] to the G [Am] to the A minor [F] to the F, and then it [C] repeats.
So again, that would [Cm] be,
[G] [Am]
[F] [Cm] So that's C, [G] G, [Am] A minor, [F]
F.
[Cm] [G]
[Dm]
[Cm] [Em]
[E] [F] [C]
[F] [C]
[G] [Am] [F]
[Cm] [F] So there you go.
[Bb] Somewhere Over the Rainbow, a very nice ukulele [E] song to impress your friends.
[C] Enjoy, and we'll see you next time.
[Em] [G] [F]
