Hi, I'm Derrick Campbell of the Campbell Brothers.
I play the lap steel guitar in the Campbell Brothers group.
And joining me today is my brother, Philip Campbell,
who's playing the electric lead guitar.
I play the eight string lap steel.
Lap steel come in various configurations
such as a six string, eight string,
as well as 10 string, and some 12.
The lap steel that I'm using today is an eight string,
and I have a tuning on it with the E major tuning
with a C sharp on the top.
Put it all together with the bass
and the chords and the melody.
[B] [E] Eight string.
[F#] [Em] [E]
[D#m] [G] [A] One, [C#] [E] two, three, four.
Technique.
Many players use the blocking technique
with the right hand,
but I'm using a form in which I use a picking up the bar,
lifting the bar, but muting with my pinky
and my ring finger.
I use that to mute the notes out.
So I hit it.
[A] [C] [D] [E]
[F#] [C] [D] [A]
[E] [Em] [F] Moving [D] with the left hand with the bar,
I'm also rocking the volume and the tone knob together.
[Em] [Am] Or using the volume.
