[Bm] Hey, what's up?
It's Leanna Crawford, and I want to share [F#m] the story behind my song Mean Girls.
[Bm] [D]
[Bm] Sticks and stones [D] may break my bones, but words will never [Bm] hurt me.
I have no idea where that quote came from,
but I have [F#m] a feeling the person that [D] said it like never was made fun of on the playground or something because
[Bm] my experience, and I [F#m] feel like most people [D] have experienced much different things, words hurt.
[Bm] I have this memory when I was eight years old.
I [D] remember I was playing dolls with my sister and one of my friends, and
[Bm] my friend made [F#m] a comment about my weight, and at eight years old,
that was the first [G] time that I had really thought about my weight in a negative [A] way.
And I remember I looked at myself a lot differently [D] after that day,
and I don't think [Bm] she probably even realized what [F#m] she had said or maybe done, [A] and it was just that those [D] things
they carry [Bm] with you and carry through [F#m] high school.
I just never [A] quite felt comfortable wearing a swimsuit [D] or I was always very conscious, [Bm] especially
being a [F#m] girl going through middle school and high [A] school and then later in life, and so [D] that's been my continual [Bm] struggle.
[F#] And so I have to remind myself that my worth, like the [Bm] song says, my worth isn't defined
by what other people have said.
It's not about my weight or that I'm not good enough or [D] my insecurities or that I'm not [Bm] confident.
It's in that he [F#m] says I'm fearfully and wonderfully made, and he created me,
and he [D] thinks of me as a work of art.
[Bm] And so I'm [F#m] sure if you've lived on this earth for any [Dm] amount of time, you've probably [Bm] experienced
some words that [F#m] have hurt you,
and if you're struggling with that, [E] I want to remind you, and I [Bm] hope that when you hear this song, that it [F#m] reminds you
that you are beautiful and that you are [G] so worth it and that God loves you, and he thinks so [A] highly of you,
and I hope that that is something you can carry [D] on throughout the rest of your life.
