[C] [D] So forth, this is [N] Layla, the original version, there at Clapton.
And hello everyone, I'm Shawn Cheek.
On the website I have this whole thing completed, even the outro at the end with the piano part.
It's on the website now, so you can check that out if you have a membership.
And the website is www .webpianoteacher.com and you can contact me at easypianolessons
[Dm] at yahoo.com.
[D] Anyway, we're going to start here with everything in red.
And this is a transcription, you know, it's guitar and I'm trying to make it sound good
for piano so I did what I could to do that.
And it works pretty well.
We're going to start with the right hand here on an A below [A] middle C, [D] right there, okay?
And then we're going to go up to a [C] middle C, then up [D] to a D, then up [Dm] to an F, back [D] down
to a D, back down [C] to a C.
[Dm] And that's da da da da da da.
It's all the same speed and it's fast.
[C] And then we're going to have D and [D] A together.
And I would play that with my pinky and my pointer finger, okay?
So D and A together, hold it for a little while, that's why the dashes are [Dm] there.
And then we're going to go to the left a [C] little bit to middle C and G, and then down a little
lower [Bb] to B flat and F together, okay?
[G] And then [D] A, G, [G] and then we're going to have [C] middle C and G again, and then [A] A, G, [G] and then
[D] D and A together, all right?
So the rhythm is, [F] [D] [C]
[Bb] [C] [D] and you repeat, see the [Dm] arrow?
[C] [Bb] [C]
[Dm] [C] [Bb] [Dm] So forth.
All right, now left hand I just have an octave and a fifth.
I have octaves here, D [Ab] octave with an A in the middle, so here's [D] middle C, here's the
D we want, here's the D below that, and an A in the middle.
We're going to play that again, and then go [C] down to the middle.
If that bothers your ear, you can leave the G out of it to get too low and muddy for you.
Sounds good to me though, so I'm going to leave it in.
And then down a little lower [Bb] to B flat and [F] F, and then [Bb] B flat on the pinky, right there.
Okay, [C] so it's [D] D octave, D octave, [C] C [Bb] octave, B [D] flat octave.
[Bb] And we'll hold that, and then I'm going to go down to [A] an A octave, and then down to a
[G] G octave, and you may wonder why did I leave the fifth out in the middle?
Because when you get so low on the [A] piano, if you put a fifth in there, it really gets
muddy, and you [Ab] can't really hear it that well.
So [A] right here I've started leaving out the middle note, okay?
And [G] then we're going to go down to a G octave.
All right, now back up to a [C] C octave and a fifth, so we're up high enough here on the
piano where the fifth in the middle is going to sound okay.
And then back [A] down to the A octave, then G [G] octave, and then back up to [D] D octave and a fifth.
If that's too hard, too difficult for you, leave out all the middle notes and just go.
[Bb]
[C] [D] Okay, it sounds just fine [Dm] that way.
[Bb] [C] [D] You can add a little more meat to it if you can add those [Dm] fifths in there.
[Bb]
[C] [D] Okay, and just line up the hands here.
[Dm] We have, then [D] together, and the left hand plays immediately after that, [C] and then together,
[Bb] together, hold a little [A] bit, then together, [G] together, and together [C] here, together, [A] together.
[G] [D] You know the rhythm, you've heard the song.
In [Dm] slow motion it should sound like this.
[D] [Bb] [F]
[G] [C] [G] [D] [Dm]
[Bb] [C] [D]
[Bb] [C] [D] Really fun to play.
Now what I did up here, [Gm] did you know that guitar part that comes in real high?
[C] [D] And then [C] again,
[D] actually I should put a D in parenthesis here.
Okay, I included that.
[N] You know, you've got all kinds of guitars going there, and I've just put this in in
case you're able to do this.
So this is kind of a little more advanced.
What you want to do, when that part comes in, I think you play this part two times as
it's [G] written, and then the third time they bring in that, [Dm]
and then the next time it does
this up here in purple.
[C]
[D] [N] What you can do is continue playing the left hand the way it is, and then add this part
in here in black.
Okay, so you go through this twice, or however many times it is, and then when it comes in
with that high guitar part, you can play [G] this part right here.
Up [Dm] here.
Okay, so for right hand, play this part up here, up an octave.
[Bm] Sorry about my phone ringing there.
[F] I really don't want to start the lesson over after I've done this much, [Eb] so we'll just
let the voicemail get it.
[F] But [Dm] A, C, D, [Fm] F, D, C, and then you're going to have the D and [Dm] A together.
Alright, there we go.
[D] So play this up an octave, and then come up here and do this in [Gm] black.
[F] [C]
[D] Okay, and then come back and repeat [F] it,
[D] and then do the stuff in purple.
A, [C] D, E, C, [D] and then do the D in parenthesis.
Okay, so after you finish this beginning part there, where you just [G] have the guitar low,
and [Dm] then we're going to play it up here.
[D]
[G] [F] [Dm] [D]
[C] [Dm]
[D]
[C] And then hold the C.
[D] That's why it's a little squiggly there, [C] because you hold it and then we [Dbm] get to the verse.
[Ab] And [Fm] then we finish the rest of it in the [N] other lessons that are on the website.
But anyway, [D] when you go through it and you're doing it up high now,
and then you're going to play this, and then start the left hand,
[C] and then I'm going to play what's in black.
[Bb] So the G with that low, and then the F with [A] this,
[G] and then the E [C] with that, and then the C [Am] with that, [G] and the D [D] with that.
So what I did is I played the right hand here,
and then I replaced the rest of the [G] right hand with this.
[Em] And I [Db] lined it up just like [N] it should go, so you can just erase this in red and [D] play that part instead.
[G] [Dm] [Bb]
[A] [C] [D] [Bb]
[G] [C] [D] [Bb]
[C] [D] [Bb]
[G] [C] And that is the [N] lesson one for this lesson.
The completion of the song is on the website right now,
so if you have a membership, get on there.
It'll be on there, and you can get a membership if you want to see it.

[C] [Bb] [C]
[Dm] [C] [Bb] [Dm] So forth.
All right, now left hand I just have an octave and a fifth.
I have octaves here, D [Ab] octave with an A in the middle, so here's [D] middle C, here's the

We're going to play that again, and then go [C] down to the middle.

_ _ [Bb] _
[C] _ _ _ [D] Okay, and just line up the hands here.
[Dm] We have, _ then [D] together, and the left hand plays immediately after that, [C] and then together,
[Bb] together, hold a little [A] bit, then together, [G] together, and together [C] here, _ together, [A] together.
[G] _ [D] You know the rhythm, you've heard the song.
In [Dm] slow motion it should sound like this.
_ _ [D] _ _ [Bb] _ _ [F] _
[G] _ [C] _ _ [G] _ [D] _ _ [Dm] _ _
_ [Bb] _ _ [C] _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ [Bb] _ [C] _ _ [D] _ Really fun to play.
_ Now what I did up here, [Gm] did you know that guitar part that comes in real high?
_ [C] _ _ [D] And then [C] again, _ _
[D] _ _ _ actually I should put a D in parenthesis here. _ _ _ _ _
Okay, I included that.
[N] You know, you've got all kinds of guitars going there, and I've just put this in in
case you're able to do this.
So this is kind of a little more advanced.
What you want to do, when that part comes in, I think you play this part two times as
it's [G] written, and then the third time they bring in that, [Dm] _ _
_ and then the next time it does
this up here in purple.
[C] _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ _ [N] What you can do is continue playing the left hand the way it is, and then add this part
in here in black.
Okay, so you go through this twice, or however many times it is, and then when it comes in
with that high guitar part, you can play [G] this part right here.
Up [Dm] here. _ _
_ Okay, so for right hand, play this part up here, up an octave.
_ _ _ _ _ [Bm] Sorry about my phone ringing there.
[F] I really don't want to start the lesson over after I've done this much, [Eb] so we'll just
let the voicemail get it.
[F] But [Dm] A, C, D, [Fm] F, D, C, and then you're going to have the D and [Dm] A together. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ Alright, there we go.
_ [D] _ So play this up an octave, and then come up here and do this in [Gm] black.
[F] _ [C] _ _
[D] _ _ Okay, and then come back and repeat [F] it, _
[D] and then do the stuff in purple.
A, [C] D, E, C, [D] and then do the D in parenthesis.
Okay, so after you finish this beginning part there, where you just [G] have the guitar low,
and [Dm] then we're going to play it up here.
_ [D] _ _
[G] _ [F] _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ [D] _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ [C] _ _ And then hold the C.
[D] That's why it's a little squiggly there, [C] because you hold it and then we [Dbm] get to the verse. _
[Ab] And _ _ _ [Fm] then we finish the rest of it in the [N] other _ lessons that are on the website.
But anyway, [D] when you go through it and you're doing it up high now,
_ and then you're going to play this, and then start the left hand, _ _
[C] and then I'm going to play what's in black.
[Bb] _ So the G with that low, and then the F with [A] this,
[G] _ and then the E [C] with that, _ and then the C [Am] with that, [G] and the D [D] with that.
So what I did is I played the right hand here,
and then I replaced the rest of the [G] right hand with this.
[Em] And I [Db] lined it up just like [N] it should go, so you can just erase this in red and [D] play that part instead. _
_ [G] _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ _ [Bb] _
[A] _ [C] _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ [Bb] _
[G] _ [C] _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ [Bb] _
_ [C] _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ [Bb] _
[G] _ [C] _ _ And that is the [N] lesson one for this lesson.
