Hey everybody, Charles from the LA Amp Show 2011.
I'm here with Bill Asher, and he's showing off his wares, including this very cool guitar he's got.
Tell us about this, man.
This is a special one, huh?
Yeah, we've been working on this model for quite a few years now, but it is relatively
new as far as being out and available.
I met Mark Ford back in 2007 when he was touring with the Black Crows.
He had a Les Paul Junior that he loved the tone and vibe of, but the Stratocaster he
felt most comfortable playing and wanted to kind of incorporate the features of the two.
So I said, we can do that.
So we designed a Strat, one of my Strat S model guitars, going with a one-piece mahogany lightweight body.
And then a friend of Mark's, he introduced me to Tom Short, hand winds, beautiful sounding pickups.
These are a set of his sweet 90s that come stock on this signature model.
Standard three-way position switch, master volume control with some cool retro knobs.
Master tone with a, we use a .033
oil and paper capacitor on there.
And for a little extra variety, Stellar Tone has developed this unit called a Tone Styler,
which in the full straight up position is [D] bypassed.
When you [G#] take it one click back, it's as if a 500k pot is just sitting in the circuit
which loads the pickup slightly.
And then it's got 14 more positions that roll it through different resistor and capacitor values.
So it works like a tone control where it takes off the top end, but it boosts the lower mids
at the same time.
So it maintains some extra clarity and musical value and doesn't squish the volume so much.
What else can I tell you about it?
It's got a rosewood fretboard.
The neck is a two-piece quarter sawn bird's eye maple neck, which actually helps a lot
for stability and tone transfer into the body.
If you have a nice tight grain piece of maple, that transfers that tone into the body a lot
faster and helps increase sustain.
The peg head has, it's not painted black.
It's actually got a nice thick ebony face plate on it.
We're using the HipShot tuners.
They're incredibly fine tuning machines.
They work real well.
My necks have a volute on the back which just adds for extra stiffness and strength there.
And then one of the other [F#] features I like is a very easy access truss rod.
So no having to take your necks off your guitars like on some instruments or digging out your
nice pickguard material to get to it.
It's very easy to adjust the truss rod fully up in pitch and tune.
And that's about [C] it.
Now, do people [G#m] apart from Mark get to enjoy this thing I'm gathering, huh?
Yeah, no.
This guitar is now becoming available.
You can order it in some different finishes.
And yeah, there you go.
Whoever wants one, welcome to it.
Where do they come to hassle you about that?
You can hassle me at asherguitars.com.
I'm located in Los Angeles, California.
So if you're in town, give me a call.
We work by appointment only.
But you're welcome to give me a call on the phone and come on down to the shop and talk
some guitar specs.
And this is a good option, this one.
Alright, y'all.
Go knock on Bill's door, but by appointment first.
Alright, cool.
This is Charles for Premier Guitar.
