[E] Guy Clark's LA [N] Freeway.
It appears on his debut album, released in 1975, Old No.
1, I believe.
This is one of the songs that really helped launch his career back [A] then.
And what a career it was.
It was over 40 [D] years of more [Eb] than 20 albums he [A] has released.
I was [Eb] quite impressed when [C] doing some research [D] on him.
He unfortunately passed away [B] earlier this year.
[A] Anyway, finally adding [Eb] one of his songs to the Target program here at Totally Guitars.
LA [A] Freeway it is.
This is really like a song, only three chords involved there.
It is beautiful though.
Just this melody [Gb] picking throughout the whole song, pretty much the intro, the verses there.
K-pop here on the second fret.
And then, like I said, three [Gbm] chords involved there.
You hear G, so of course G major is in [D] there.
C major there [E] and D major.
Although mostly he actually plays a D dominant 7 with an F sharp in the bass there.
So just another inversion of the [A] chord.
And then indeed, you have this melody running [E] through it, which you've already heard earlier
in [A] this preview.
There's a little bit of strumming going on [Eb] in the chords.
He kind of mixes [A] it up.
Indeed, he has been playing the song for [N] a long time, so random and freeform and freestyle [A] it is.
He keeps the melody [Db] in pretty much the same places, [Gb] don't get me wrong, but there's a
lot of freedom [Cm] in how you fill it up and so [Eb] on.
So those are things that we talk about in this lesson.
I will of course show you how the [E] intro goes, written out the tablature for it, so we thoroughly
will break [N] it down for sure.
[Dm] Now, [E] indeed, LA Freeway by Guy Clark.
