Doing fine.
Here's Jeannie Seely.
[Fm] Here's Jeannie Seely on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.
Kind of an imaginable different way to introduce her,
but I think the best way is to just simply say
the original and still reigning queen of country music,
undisputedly.
And a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame,
would you welcome please Miss Kitty Wells.
[E]
[A] As I sit here [A] tonight, the [D] jukebox playing
[E] The tune about the wild side [A] of life
As I listen to the words you are [D] saying
It brings [E] memories when I [E] was a [A] trusting wife
It wasn't God who made the honky [D]-tonk angels
As [E] you said in the words of [A] your songs
Too many times married men think they're [D] still single
That [E] has taught many a good girl to [A] go around
[E]
[A] [Bm]
[G#] [A] Shame that all the blame is [D] on us women
It's [E] not true that only men [A] feel the same
From the start most every heart that's [D] ever broken
[E] Was because there always was a [A] man to blame
[E] It [A] wasn't God who [A] made the honky [D]-tonk angels
As [E] you said in [E] the words of [A] your songs
Too many times married men think they're [D] still single
That [E] has taught many a good girl to go around
[A]
Thank you, thank you so much.
[B] Miss Kitty, [E]
you sound so good.
We [N] spent quite a bit of time this past week together.
We flew out to Arizona, but you are celebrating
a wonderful anniversary tonight.
You want to tell us about it?
Yes, this is our 60th wedding anniversary.
Johnny and I got married in 1937, so he's here with me tonight.
And I think they're going to get him out here. Hi, Terry.
You know what?
It just [Em] occurred to me she found 60 years ago
what the rest of us have been looking for.
She really did find Mr.
Right.
Mr.
Johnny Right, as a matter of fact.
And also their [A] son, a [B] star in his own right, Bobby Wright's with them tonight.
[E] Happy anniversary to you.
[N] Can I use this mic?
[C#] And you have that.
[B] [E] Well, hello, everybody.
We're ready to go with the song here our son wrote for us.
We recorded this song about a year ago, and it's really doing good.
And it's about our 60th anniversary title.
After 60 years together, I guess they'll [G] stick together.
[C]
Cause we stuck together through the [F] lean and the lean years
[C] The lean and hungry years were filled [G] with strife
[C] Now we're still [C] together in the [F] green, green years
[C] And we'll stick together [G] for the rest of [C] our lives
I've seen love come and go [F] just like the winter snow
[C] I saw a boy break his darlin' [G] heart
[C] But his love wasn't true like [F] my love is for you, [C] darling
I'll [G] never break your heart
Cause we stuck together through [F] the lean and the lean years
[C] The lean and hungry years were filled [G] with strife
Now [C] we're still together [F] in the green, [D] green years
[C] And we'll stick together for the [G] rest of our [C] lives
First it was so hard [F] for us to make a start
[C] But we kept on playing [G] every day
[C] Your kisses were so sweet [F] and you were nice to [Am] me, darling
You [G] swept me [C] off my feet
Cause we stuck together through [F] the lean and the lean years
The [C] lean and hungry years were filled with [G] strife
[Em]
[C] Now we're still [C] together
[F] in the green, green years
And we'll [C] stick together for the [G] rest of our [Am] lives
[C] [C]
[N]
Aren't they just wonderful?
Look at them.
60 years.
Miss Kitty, I just have to ask you.
All of us, you know, all of us have learned a lot about the music business from you
And I think some of us could probably learn quite a bit about marriage
You want to tell us what your secret is to making it work for 60 years
Well, just let them have their way
[F#]
I don't think that was [G] the answer I wanted
What about you, girl?
[N] No, we really work together
It's no, really no secret
And we've always tried to get along
And we were brought up if you got married, it was for a lifetime
And so that's what we've made
Thank you
And I have to say that anytime that I have been around you
It has been so obvious that y'all are just such good friends
We still are good friends
And I love her, love the morning
On our 30th, our 60th anniversary, I woke up and I said,
You look just as well as you did when we married in 1937
I can't tell a bit of difference in you
And she slapped me
Well, we love you and we're so happy you're here tonight Happy anniversary
And come back to see us at the Grand Ole Opry real soon, would you?
[G] Mr.
and Mrs.
Wright, what more can you say?
We'll be right [E] back after this word from our sponsor
