We played a show in East Germany and it was supposed to be a reggae concert and it wound up being the skinhead festival
It was ridiculous because I brought my sister my little sister came to visit me at that time and I was like, oh, yeah
It's a reggae festival, you know, come on down.
It should be fun
So then when we showed up our our van broke down and we had we like took us hours to get there
We finally got there was nighttime and we rolled in and parked next to the stage
We were supposed to play open the door and there was like 3,000 skinheads
It was in this compound where they didn't have any drinking water
The only thing they had were these bottles of wine is a really cheap East German wine called Le Bonjour
Like and we were like we was ridiculous.
Yeah, there was no water.
There's no running water
We just had these this wine and it was [B] ridiculous.
We just kept drinking this wine
We were drinking out of straws because we're just getting bored.
We finally wound up
Escaping skinhead island and then recorded our first album.
[E]
[Em] [E]
[B] I
Started the band 10 years ago when I was I just I went on tour with
my band then which called spacious and I finished the tour and decided to stay in Germany and it was kind of like a
Dream I have for quite a long time to do like a full-on like soul band with horns and a dancer
In a way to I remember when [Cm] I when I when I started doing this stuff in [B] Europe
I wanted to kind of bring to Europe that whole Mardi Gras feeling of like New Orleans
so and also musically too because I get a lot of our music is influenced by like the
Music of New Orleans
[E] [D] [E]
[Db] [E] [D] [E]
[D] It's funny.
I [E] mean you gotta you gotta be able to [Em] laugh I mean
That's one one thing that the world is missing now is like characters like
Little Richard or Chuck Berry or Bo Diddley like, you know that they were like cartoons almost sometimes
You [E] know and and especially in the eyes of their fans [C] do it's just like there was a mystery
[E] But there's also like just [Ab] you know, it's a [E] funny stuff little Richard, especially, you know, like that guy
He'd play shows and people [Db] wanted to kill him, [E] you know, like in the audience, you know, like [G] like
[A]
[Em] Black people want to kill [D] him white people
Kill, [C] I mean there there's such a [G] there was a danger in like what he was doing
[E] [Am]
[Bm] [D] I mean for me punk music is our punk in general is more of a quality
To describe music than it is like a type of music.
It's funny because I remember
There was an interview with Roky Erickson and he said that he had learned how to scream from James [A] Brown
[G]
[Ab] And like that's another scream, you know, that's really epic You know
Like you hear in please please please or like in slow songs and fast songs that just like [Em] a gut-wrenching
like you could totally feel every ounce of pain of that person, you know went through and
So I think the same way it's like, you know
The reason people are really appreciating what we do is that it's honest and it's not like contrived, you know, I'm not trying to
Overstep our boundaries.
We're just like, you know, keeping it raw keeping it simple and
[E] soulful
[D]
[E] [B] [D]
[E] I
[G] Don't know what I see in the [D] future, but I mean I definitely [Em] see
[D] new costumes [B] because I mean we
We [Abm] honestly have one set [B] of shirts and I have one suit [E] and I wash my shirt [Bm] that I have
[E] Like every every after every show or is try to [Em] you know, but it's amazing cuz [Gb] I you know, [Ebm] you don't think so bad
[Gb]
[Em] It's I guess it all depends on how you feel, you know
If you feel [B] good, then your body does not emit those awful odors and we're not [Abm] afraid of what we [E] do
And yeah, I feel good.
I smell [A] good
[D] Make love good
[E]
