Three of a Perfect Pair with the opening acapella verses.
[G] Rather as the name suggests, Three of a Perfect Pair is the title [B] track of the third King
Crimson album from the 1980s, recorded by the quartet of [B] Fripp, Ballou, Bruford and Levin.
[A] When we were first pencilling in tracks to include in this series [C] of unusual takes, the
acapella version [D] of Three of a Perfect Pair was one of the very [Bb] first suggestions.
[Am] This first appeared [G] in the On and Off the Road box set in 2016.
[Gb] In that version, the opening two acapella verses were followed by a stripped down version
of the track where many of the lead lines and lead vocals had been [A] removed.
No doubt many listeners will be frustrated that we haven't used that version here.
Although it's fascinating for those who know the [Ab] track very well, it will [Db] make very
little sense to a first [C]-time listener.
[G] So we've wrestled with the [A] question of what should follow the opening two acapella verses.
We've tried the lazy options, always appealing.
Just have [Am] those two verses and then stop.
[Db] Or join those two verses to [Abm] the existing mix of the [A] track, which proved impossible as the
vocal balance is so different.
Finally, we bit off on the obvious solution that there was no alternative but for me to
create a [Eb] new version.
So new that the paint is still wet as I speak.
It does however allow us to include Three of a Perfect Pair in this KC50 series, which
I'm very happy to do as it's a personal favourite from that period.

So here it is, a previously unreleased version of Three of a Perfect Pair with [Eb] the acapella opening.
