[G] On March 4th, Kimo Hussie, the author of He [C] Mele Aloha, the Hawaiian Songbook, is going to be starting a [G] series of ukulele lessons.
For 8 [C] weeks on Sundays at 2pm, Kimo and friends will teach you how [G] to play ukulele and more importantly, what to practice.
[C] For a low $35 per hour, you'll be able [G] to kanika pilo with [C] your friends.
Class [G] sizes are limited to no more than 10, so get [C] going.
What are you waiting [G] for?
Call [Em] 261 [C]
-6142.
[G] That's [Em] 261 [E] -6142.
[Am]
[G] [Cm] Aloha, [E] I'm Kimo Hussie and for a number of years I've been really, [Abm] really enjoying the worldwide renaissance in ukulele.
And I'm excited about telling you about a new program of ukulele instruction we will be [Gb] instituting here at Kailua Music School.
The program is comprised of 8 hours of instruction and that instruction is divided into 4 main areas of attention.
But before we get into the first area of attention, what I would like to tell you is philosophically, what we feel and the way we designed this program is to show you what you need to do in order to [Bb] practice most effectively.
The way you [G] learn to play the ukulele is a function of how much you [Gb] practice and how much you play just for [G] fun on your own and not during the sessions that we have when we are together.
So again, our philosophy is we show you [Gb] what to practice and how to practice effectively and what you do is learn based on your interests in the ukulele.
I'd like to focus first of all on the left hand.
It is one of 4 areas that we will emphasize in our learning.
The purpose of the left hand is just to hold [N] chords and so what we will do is to show you how to hold basic chords [G] like this [C] and this and [D] this and even [Em] this [Cm] and this and [E] this.
[Ab]
And those are just examples of some of the chords that we will use.
The reason why we like to break down things into each specific area as we spend time together is sometimes we have a tendency when we're learning to do anything to combine [Bb] things too soon.
In ukulele, if we combine what the left hand needs to do with what the right hand needs to do too [F] early in the process of learning how to play, what happens is our think tank [Bb] gets diffused.
And because of that, we think that we have a problem learning when we really don't.
All we need to do is break down further into specific areas what we need to bring later on, not now, later on together in order to make the music sound wonderful.
Let me play something for you and then we'll look forward to our next session together.
