I really hoped that they would do Wicked Little Town, and I wasn't sure which version they
would do, but I'm really glad they chose the softer, acoustic version, because their voices
are just, they just give you chills.
It [Cm] just feels like [Em] you're kind of just in [A] a [Em] little tiny bedroom, and they're singing
[Am] with their guitar, [Em] singing, and you're just listening to them do it.
It just feels really [A] intimate.
They just [Em] nailed that, and their voices work so well [B] together.
[A] It's just really haunting.
[Em]
[Am] [C] Do you want me to try to [G] sing now, or not?
Yeah.
Okay, but remember there's some extra harmonies that we weren't doing.
Well, let's just do it now so Steve hears exactly what we're doing, right?
Okay, we're trying to count?
So he knows kind of what we're doing?
One, two, [Em] one, two, here we go.
[E] [C] We had been watching the Hedwig movie a lot.
In the tour [Cm] bus.
In the [G] tour bus, and we started [N] doing the cover of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
Richard, our guitar player, would sing it, and we would play it live.
And I guess it was, I don't know how John Cameron Mitchell found out, or something.
I don't know.
Somebody that Kevin knows, the manager knows somebody who knows John Cameron Mitchell.
We invited him down to the shows at the Bowery Ballroom.
We did four shows in New York City.
We invited John Cameron Mitchell, and he came down and he sang the song.
And we did it, we did it like a half-step sharp.
I told her about that.
We did it to sabotage his performance.
Sorry, John.
Whoops.
We thought we were doing it right.
And he came and he sang it, and we got to know him and be friends with him.
And then the next thing, I guess, again, the manager called us and said they called us
and called people from the Hedwig people, called and they're doing a benefit.
And I always liked the song Wicked Little Town.
So me and Kelly learned it on acoustic guitars.
We transferred, making it go over from piano to guitar, thinking, okay, we'll do it on guitars.
Well, here's how it goes.
We'll play it, we'll call John Cameron Mitchell.
We'll play it on his cell phone.
Wasn't it pretty?
It was his favorite John.
Yeah, so we left it on his cell phone machine.
And then he seemed to like it, like that.
Because two months later, he still had it on there.
Yeah.
He said, I've got a problem with my machine.
Let me digress for a moment.
And now I'm feeling weird because we don't have any more instru out now.
But I don't feel like I should [C] just throw drums on there and the bass, you know, when
we're doing it.
It's such a pretty sad song.
Should we have brought the [C#] acousticals?
I don't know, maybe.
I don't either.
And that's how we got involved with it.
One, [D#] two, here we [G] go.
[C#]
[C] [F#] [D]
[G] [E] I [C]
[Am] [E]
[G] know [C#m] the sun [C#] is in [C] your eyes.
[F#]
[Bm] And [E] hurricanes and rain.
[C] And black and cloudy [Am] skies.
[G] And running up and down [C] that hill.
You turn it [F] on and off at [Cm] will.
There's nothing here to thrill [G] or bring you down.
And if you've got no other [C] choice.
You know you can [F] follow [Cm] my voice.
Through the dark turns and noise of [G] this wicked little town.
Lady [C#m] luck [Em] has led [C] you here.
[Am]
[D] [G] And they're [C#] so twisted up.
[C] They'll twist you up by fear.
[G] The pious, hateful and [C] devout.
You're turning tricks till you're turned [Cm] out.
The wind's so cold it burns.
[G] You're burning out, blowing round.
And if you've got no [C] other choice.
You know you can follow my [Cm] voice.
Through the dark turns and noise [G] of this wicked little town.
[A] Ah, ah, ah, ah.
[Am] Ah, [C] ah, ah, ah.
[G] The fates [C#m] are vicious and they're [C] cruel.
[D] [G] You learn [C#m] too late.
You use [C] two wishes like a fool.
[Am]
[G] And then you're someone you [C] are none.
And Junction City ain't the [Cm] spot.
Remember [G]
Mrs.
Lott when she turned around.
And if you've got no other [C] choice.
You know you can [F] follow [Cm] my voice.
Through the dark turns and noise of this [G] wicked little town.
