[F] Okay, the new DVD that I've just finished doing [C] is 20 classic metal riffs.
[A] And basically they're just [D] sort of riffs that range from like the 70s with [F] Dio and Black
Sabbath to some [G] present day stuff with a [A#] newly done version, well I say newly done version
of Holy Diver, but [G] Killswitch [B] Engage's version of Holy Diver.
And [F] yeah, we've got [D] Audioslave as well, and some Metallica in there.
So you can't [D#m] really have a classic metal DVD [G] without having some [F#] Metallica on it.

I think Danny Gill did a classic 20 classic rock riffs, and this is kind of in the similar
sort of vein but it's just a bit heavier, just looking at more kind of metal bands from
back in the day and more recently.
[G#] To say like, you know, I think the classic rock DVD was actually more ACDC and that sort of thing.
[Em] [D]
[A#] [G]
[E]
[A#]
[F#] Yeah, there's a lot of rhythm ideas, it's definitely good [Em] for anybody looking at how
some of these [E] bands have created some of these great riffs.
And I think when you learn them, you start to learn, if you've not realised already,
how great some of these riffs are.
Because you realise how simple they are, and I know when I was growing up that I'd try
and come up with the most complicated riffs in the world, but really to have a riff that
really grooves well in any genre [G] of music or something that really translates [G#] to an audience.
[G] Sometimes it can be like three notes, it just [E] depends how you play it.
[E] But I think there's [F#] definitely a lot of riffs in this DVD which can [A] give anybody a good
insight into how to write a [B] good riff.
As well as [A] being a fan of some of these [F#] bands, it's definitely good from that point of view as well.
[F#] [G#]

[A] [F#]
[G#] [E]
[F] [B]
[D#] Yeah, any tips that I'd give to [F#m] anybody would just be to [B] try and [Bm] play all the riffs as [B] cleanly
and as [F#] in time [B] as possible.
Even if it's not quite up to speed [C#] with the [D] original track, as long as it's [A]
in time with
itself [A] and it makes sense.
So [F#] if you busted out the riff [B] to someone, they'd know what you were [A] playing.
That sort of [F#] thing.
Rhythm needs to be really [E] tight and [E] clean, because when you're playing in a band at ridiculous
volume you still want people to hear what you're doing, rather than it just being a
real mess.
So that's all I would say really, just [Gm] have fun with it.
Just learn some classic riffs and have fun doing that.
And at the same time try and [E] [B] get something out of [E] it, maybe using your own playing as well.
