Kenny Chesney - I'm A Small Town (Audio Commentary) chords
Start Jamming...
[F]
There have been a [Ab] lot of small-town songs.
I mean I've recorded several of them
But I've never heard a song
like this one where the small town is
Talking about itself in third person and about everything that it's seen
When Keith Gatiss gave me this song I
Listened to it.
I was in a plane flying home somewhere, and I listened to it
I bet you 50 times over and over again because I was immediately
Transformed to that kid again that literally used to sit out in the backyard and stare up at the stars and
wonder if there was anything else out there beyond what he knew and
basically, that's where I first learned how to dream and
And that song
Touches me to my core.
I'm a small town
Is everything in one song that I was growing up and the in the relationships that I made early on
That shaped me as a human being that put me on a path to doing what I'm doing today
It was when I first heard that song.
I literally I could see my high school football coach
I could see all the kids faces that I went to vacation Bible school with I could
Every sense [G] all your senses
That you remember as a kid and growing up and you know and staying with my grandmother a lot I
remember her kitchen all that stuff everything and
that's what that song does for me and and I believe that I'm a small town is the kind of song that
you know, it's getting back a little bit to the core of who I am as an artist and
the simplicity of the songs that I love that
Basically made me want to do this in the first place
it's that kind of song for me and
Like I said, I feel like a rock star I think the song totally
Defines my audience and everybody that's that's growing up with me in this business and everybody that's that's
Been coming to our shows for a while.
I think it describes
That common thread that we all have that makes us love country music in the [C] first place
[F] I'm a small town
