Hey everyone, it's John again.
I want to show you how to play the song Stupid Boy Today by Keith Urban.
It's a pretty simple song.
We'll start off with the intro.
This song is also in a drop D formation.
If you go to my video Country Boy Can't Survive, I show you how to get into a drop D formation if you don't know.
It starts off with a slide.
You're going to take your 3rd finger, [D]
put it on the 3rd fret of your E string, which is now a low D [F] string.
[F#] It sounds like that.
Now I take my 1st finger for this part, and I'm going to put it on the 2nd fret of my G [A] string.
[F] Like that.
I'm not doing anything with this finger.
I'm going to slide it down [D] 2 frets.
Like that.
[F#] I kind of play the top 4 strings when I do that.
[D] Just like that.
In the song, it starts off a little quicker.
It's this part.
Then it starts strumming from there.
So it sounds like that.
[G]
That's the first part you're going to be [F#] playing.
[Bm]
After you get that down, you're going to go to the D chord.
[D]
[G] After you get that down, you're going to [F#] keep your D formation.
You're going to take your 1st [A] finger, and you're going to pull off.
[G] [F#] Then you're going to take your 3rd finger, [G]
[G#] break the formation, and [F#] go to the 4th fret of your D
[D] [F#]
string.
Then you go to the 2nd fret of the same string as your 1st finger.
[D] [E]
So let's review what [G] we have so far.
[D]
[F#]
Now you have your 1st finger in the position where it can play an A chord.
So [A] do that.
Same A chord right there.
[F#m] [A]
[F#] You're going to hammer on to the 4th fret of your D string.
[G]
[D] [F#] [A]
Then you're going to pull off the whole A chord.
You're going to go [D]
[G] [G#] open down like [G] this.
[D] [A]
[G]
[F#] The 2nd part of this, the 2nd riff, is actually pretty similar.
Except I [A]
added a few notes.
In the 1st part, in the 1st riff we [F#] go
In the 2nd one, I go
I do a
Like that.
[F] I've heard more and less [G] of this.
[D]

Alright.
When we get to the chorus, where it's like going
I take that D chord differently.
You don't do the slide anymore.
You're going to [F#] take your 4th finger, your pinky here,
you're going to put it on the 5th fret of your D string.
Then you're going to take your 1st finger, you're going to put it on the 3rd fret of your D [D] string.
Take your 3rd finger, [Fm] put it on the 5th fret of your [G] drop D.
That's a D chord.
[D]
[B] Just like that.
[G#] With those riffs, you can play the song pretty well.
