[F] [Dm] Okay, so this year we can't
meet in [F] big crowds in packed carol services [Bb] like we're all used to, but that [F] doesn't mean
that we can't [Dm] still sing our hearts out wherever we are.
[Bb] Christmas is alive and well and online.
Our Bible reading this week is [Fm] from the prophet Isaiah and is read by [F] Isaac.
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light, on those [F] living in the land of
deep darkness a light has dawned.
[Fm] For to us a child is born, [F] to us a son is given, and
[Fm] the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will [F] be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty
God, [Fm] Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, [Fm] establishing
and upholding it with [F] justice and righteousness from that time on and [D] forever.
The zeal of
the Almighty [G] Lord will accomplish this.

[D] _ Well, as I said last week, that's [E] a difficult question to answer simply.
There is [Gb] so much to it, so many things to explore, like multiple gifts to unwrap.
Last week, we looked at how the message of Christmas is that Jesus is absolutely part of human history.
He lived and laughed and he mourned and cried, just like you and me.
But there's more, because he wasn't only human.
_ Jesus was born to be king.
Writing hundreds of years before the birth of Christ, the prophet Isaiah foretells this about him.
He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on [F] and forever.
That's what we've just been singing about.
Joy to the world, let earth receive her king.
But why should we receive Christ as [Gm] king with joy?
The answer is in the final verse of that carol.
It's because he rules the world with truth and grace.
_ Truth.
_ [Eb] This Christmas, dip into the teachings of Jesus [Ab] in the Gospels.
[F] I guarantee that you will come away with the sense that they are jam-packed full of deep and beautiful truth.
[Eb] He rules the world with truth and grace.
Grace is such an extraordinary word.
It means total love.
[E] It means being known and held, regardless of how well we feel we are doing in this life.
It means being safe and secure in the love of God, regardless of how lovable we believe we are.
Knowing that you are loved like that brings the most wonderful comfort and joy.
