Jonathan Davis on the quest to Cure Type 1 Diabetes chords
Start Jamming...
Hello everybody, I'm Jonathan Davis from Bancorn.
I want to talk a little bit about the battle
I'm having with my son's type 1 diabetes.
Zeppy's had it for now over a year.
That it's a battle
with the parents.
It's a battle for him.
It's a battle for everybody.
It's a horrible disease.
I was out on the road.
My wife was calling me saying Zeppy was really tired and just being lethargic and laying around.
Something was wrong.
I got home from tour and we took him to the hospital and told him, you know, it was going on and
they started running tests and doing all things and they decided to check his blood sugar
just to see.
I think he was at that time
290 and so that set up the flag for type 1 diabetes.
His glucose was high.
When that night happened, I mean that changed my life forever.
I found out that my son had type 1 diabetes.
Oh my gosh, I'm sorry.
[A] [Em] It's been very hard
dealing with that
because
there's a lot involved.
I have to [D] constantly monitor his glucose.
I have to [G] constantly hurt him and stick him with the needles
and he doesn't understand.
It's a horrible disease and
I really want to do whatever I can do
to make a difference
to help find a cure for this because it just doesn't affect my son.
I feel for everyone that has a disease.
[A] It's not fair at all.
That's why I started writing the song, So I'm Fair About It, because
you're asking a child not to eat candy.
I got to watch his carbs.
I got to watch the sugar count.
I got to watch everything.
And how do you tell a child you can't eat this, you can't do this, you can't do that?
So it's been a constant battle with me.
I constantly worry about
at night,
you know, I've had him
his blood sugar drop really low to where it's scaring me where he won't wake up.
It's a very
difficult thing to deal with but
the one thing that keeps me going is I have a support group with him, you know, my family, JDRF.
They give me hope.
They're searching for a cure
constantly.
I have hope that they're working on the artificial pancreas.
I've been reading a lot about that.
Now he's seven years old
and he won't do the pump.
He doesn't want to use the pump.
And I mean for me, it would be a lot better for him to use the pump because
he only has to get stuck one time every two days.
But now, you know, right now I'm sticking him about 10 times a day
between finger checks and actual shots.
He's a little boy.
So I got to battle him when we go to sleep at night.
He'll wake up in the middle of the night and try to sneak food and he'll wake up with high glucose in the morning.
There's all kinds of challenges
that I'm [C] facing.
Bottom line, I really wanted to try and do something to help find a cure for this disease.
And that's the bottom line.
And I just wanted to [D] express my frustration and my feelings of writing a song
so unfair and I wanted to put it out there and give all the proceeds to JDRF so they can find a cure for this.
Bullshit.
I'm just gonna say it.
It's just, it's f**ked up.
And I want it to be gone.
I don't want no one to suffer from this.
If you can, buy the song
because I want all the proceeds to go in to this wonderful
foundation that is fighting tooth and nail to help these little kids out.
I hate seeing kids in pain.
It just kills me.
So
buy the song and let's find a cure for this bulls**t, please.
