[Eb] [C] [Bb] Well, [C] when I was a young man, I worked [F] in an automobile factory in Michigan.
And I didn't ever do this, but even back then I thought about it, and we talked about it from time to time.
Well, I left Kentucky back in 49 [Bb] and went to Detroit working on assembly line.
[C] The first year, they had me putting wheels [F] on Cadillacs.
Every day I'd watch them beauties roll [Bb] by, and sometimes I'd hang my head and [C] cry.
Always wanted me one that was long [F] and black.
One day I'd advise myself a plan that [Bb] should be the envy of most any [C] man.
I'd sneak it out of there in a lunchbox in my [F] hand.
Now, getting caught meant getting [C] fired, but [Bb] I figured I'd have it all by the time I retired.
[C] Have me a car worth at least a hundred [F] grand.
I'd get it one piece at a [G] time, [Bb] and it wouldn't cost me a dime.
[C] You'll know it's me when I come to [F] your town.
Gonna ride around in style, [Bb] gonna drive everybody wild,
[C] cause I have the only one there [F] is around.
Well, the very next day when I [C] checked in [Bb] with my big lunchbox and help from my [C] friends,
I left that day with a lunchbox [F] full of gear.
I never considered myself a thief, [Bb] but GM wouldn't miss just one little [C] piece,
especially if I strung it out over [F] several years.
Well, the first day I got me a fuel [Bb] pump.
The next day I got me an engine and a [C] trunk.
Then I got me a transmission and [F] all the chrome.
The little things I could get in my big [Bb] lunchbox, like nuts and bolts and all four [C] shocks,
the big stuff I snuck out in my buddy's [F] mobile home.
Well, up to now my plan went all right, [Bb] till we tried to put it all together one [C] night,
and that's when I noticed that something was [F] definitely wrong.
The transmission was a 53 [Bb] and the motor turned out to be a 73.
[C] When we tried to put in the bolts, all the [F] holes were gone.
So we drilled it out so that it would [Bb] fit, and with a little bit of help from an adapter [C] kit,
had that engine running just [F] like a song.
The headlights was another sight.
[Bb] We had two on the left and one on the [C] right.
But when I pulled out the switch, all [F] three of them come on.
The back end looked kind of funny too, [Bb] but we put it together and when we got through,
[C] that's when I noticed that we only had [F] one tail fin.
About that time my wife walked out [Bb] and I could see in her eyes that she had a doubt,
[C] but she opened the door and said, Honey, take me [F] for a spin.
So we went uptown just to get the tags, [Bb] and I headed her right on down Main Drag.
[C] You could hear everybody laughing for [F] blocks around.
But up there at the courthouse, they didn't laugh, [Bb] because to type it up, it took the [B] whole staff,
[C] and when they got through, the title weighed [F] 60 pounds.
I got it one piece at a time, [Bb] and it didn't cost me a dime.
[C] You'll know it's me when I come through [F] your town.
[Bm] I'm [F] gonna ride around in style, [Bb] gonna drive everybody wild,
[C] because I have the only one there [F] is round.
I got it one piece at a time, [Bb] and it didn't cost me a dime.
[C] You'll know it's me when I come through [F] your town.
[Bm] [F] Gonna ride around in style, [Bb] gonna drive everybody wild,
[C] because I have the only one there [F] is round.
Yeah, Red Rider, this is the Cottonmouth and the Psycho Billy Cadillac, come on.
Negatory on the cost of this machine there, Red Rider.
You might say I just went up to the factory there and picked it up.
It's cheaper that way.
