Good evening and welcome to our annual Christmas show and it's pretty special with Ann Murray who remembers Christmas in Nova Scotia
Tom T.
Hall whose earliest Christmases were in Kentucky and
Andy Kaufman who had his own special Christmases in his native country
Wherever that is my own recollections go back to my home and dais, Arkansas
D y e s s dies just recently my father
Rakesh and my older brother Roy returned to dice [D] and they remembered an incident that later was to [A] inspire songs that I wrote
Well, this is our old home place.
It don't look like it did [Em] back 35 years ago
Does it Roy you [D] remember that great [Dm] Mississippi River flood back [A] in?
1937 if you remember all this area here was covered in water
You [F#m] remember the willow trees that grew along along that drainage ditch?
I sure [E] do and the old chickens roosting in [Dm] the willow trees.
[A#] That was
Terrible flood and all of my land was covered [D] if you remember up
To this part of the [A#] house right along here [C] just under the floor
[A] I know it liked about four inches getting in the house
How high is the water mama two feet high and rising how high is the water
[E] We can make it through the road and a homemade [D] boat, that's the only thing we got left little [E] float
It's already over all the wheat and oats two feet [A] high and rising
[C] I know we had to go in a boat from the house out to the road
And I [F] think then they had a truck that brought us [C] up here to our
community building then but we got into
Center up here and mr.
[F] Steinberg gone ahead with the [Fm] cows and
[C]
Mule, you know take them son and [F#] they carried them out to basket.
How high is the water [D] mama?
Won't be high and right
How high is the water Papa?
She said it will be high and rising
Hey come look through the window [G] pane the buses come gonna take us to the [A] train
Looks like we'll be blessed with a little more rain.
Oh beat
[D]
[Bm] Remember during that flood happen mama [D] and Johnny and Jack and
Reba [G] after the road because they couldn't get out without help [D] much water
Yeah, we was gone for the 16th of February.
Those [F#] chickens came in the house and when we came home [G] in
February [Gm] we walked in the house
Of course, the [D] doors are still open our hog and her [Bm] five pigs had been in the house and we had a couch
We hadn't had [Gm] very long and that couch was covered with hen eggs.
You remember that remembered very [E] well
Yes, how high is the water mama?
Five feet high and rise
How high is the water Papa?
Set us five feet high and rising.
Well, the rails are washed out north of town
[A] We got a head for higher [B] ground.
Can't come back till the water goes down five feet [E] high and rising
Well, it's five feet high
[F#] [E]
