a station called WMMR.
People, you know, a lot of people liked this, but in those days,
you had top 40, hit radio, you know, high lit,
that kind of stuff, and, um,
but this was cool because they would play album cuts, obscure music,
and it gave people a whole new, opened their minds to a whole new
genre of music and a whole new set of arts.
And one of the real great exponents that had this, [Gb] of that radio station,
one of the dischargers was a guy named Gene Shade.
[C] Now Gene, Gene was a very cool guy.
He was really into the king of, you know, Philadelphia folk singing.
He had a cool show on Sunday evenings, I believe it started at midnight,
[Gb]
and Darryl and I used to [Abm] play it all the time before we had a record contract,
before anything, [Bbm] we'd go up there in the middle of the night,
[B]
our minds, and we'd play these songs.
[N] Anyway, Gene Shade was a really cool guy, still around today.
In fact, I'm going to see him tomorrow at Tanner University.
And, um, anyway, one song that I remember hearing,
I think it was back in probably 69, something like that,
on that particular show was a song by a guy [Ab] called, a duo called
Frazier and DeBolt.
Now they were from [Bb] Canada, there was a guy in a [Em] song,
[Db] now they're talking about a singer.
Okay, Frazier and DeBolt,
You have their album.
What's that, you have their album?
I wish I had their album.
But [C] in lieu of not having the album, I want the song in particular.
[Ab] And always in the back of my mind, it stuck in my mind that
one day I'm going to record this particular song.
I've always [Em] wanted to record it.
So I got to [Db] record it on a new album, a sister model.
So, [C] for you who have that particular [Db] album,
you can A and B my version against the original.
[Bb]
And I spoke to Alan [D] Frazier, who lives in Montreal now,
[N] who wrote the song.
He was thrilled that I recorded it, and he [Bb] thinks it's a great [A] version.
And, [Eb] um, so it's sung out with a beautiful [Em] song.
It's called, uh, Dan Ball Girl.
So here [F] we go.
Them Dan Ball girls
[C] You know the tricks [F] you can
Hear the bodies
[Bb] You'll never [F] reach the mines
[Bb] They fill you [F] up
[Bb] With [Am] lipstick [Bb] lies
And they put [F] you down, son
[C] Don't you be [Dm]
surprised
[G] Is this [F] the way
It always [C] hits you [Bb] more and more
[F]
[C] I [F] climb dirt mountains
[C] You know what they say
[F] You know the sunshine
[Bb] You know I [F] can't complain
[Bb] Went [F] too fast
[Bb] Then I [Am] drove too fast
[Bb] Thought I [F] had enough
[C] I came to be [Dm] last
[G] And here I am, [F] facing away
From [C] this issue [Bb] more and more
