[B] All right, [E] so we're going to reset.
[B] Back to one.
[E] We are [B] at Downey Studios and we're making a [E] music video [B] for John Mayer's song called
[E] Queen of California.
[B] I've always known that I wanted Queen of California to be a [B] single.
I don't think there's anything
on the record that you could point at to say, like, well, this is going to take the world by storm.
But I think they're really special tunes that [E] [F#] are different, [B] you know, special in their
own way.
[E] And I [B] think, I think if people see this, they'll, [E] I think they'll get [B] that much
more of that good mood feeling from the [E] visuals as they might from [G#m] the song.
[C#m] I love long, one-take shots where a lot of things happen.
[B] And I always have wanted [E] to
do a video like [B] that.
And luckily, we, you know, we were able to, [F#] you know, get John
on board and the record company on board [E] and build this giant set.
We got the building where they built [B] the space shuttle.
And this building is [E] 650 [B],000 square
feet.
You can put more than a football field inside here.
And [E] so it turned [B] out to be perfect.
It's really [E] big.
[B] It's a big music video.
And I don't think I've [F#] ever made one this [B] big
before.
I just wanted to make one [E] that would really throw people off [G#m] in terms of their
[C#m] expectation for what the Queen of California video would be.
Working with [B] John is great.
He's an artist and he's creative, [B] but he's very smart.
So
it wasn't an easy process to get here.
[F#] And we went through a lot of ideas.
But in the
end, [E] when I showed him this idea, [B] he said, that's it.
[E] That's the idea.
[B] Do that.
I'm going
to get [E] out of your way.
[B] Do that.
It's the benefit of [E] 10 years [B] experience of putting out records and making videos that
I've learned, let the director direct the video.
He's made a lot more videos [B] than I
have.
[E] And I just like working with people who have a vision and who [C#m] has very concrete
vision.
[B] And it's easy to trust and it's easy to not worry.
I think that's what makes the
day go by really quickly.
So I [F#] don't have to worry about putting my hands on the wheel
and helping [E] to steer.
Well the concept of the video is [B] John takes a stroll.
[Bm]
[E] He starts [B] out in his hotel [E] room
and [A] where he ends [E] up, [B] you know, it's quite a different surreal [E] place.
And [B] it's a journey
that, [E] it kind of goes with [B] the lyrics, but more in just a surreal [E] way.
And [B] having [E] someone
who's not only musical, but has a [F#m] good sense of timing [E] has been really [C#m] helpful because
John has to hit all his marks.
You [B] know, he's a musician, he's not an actor.
[E] You know, I
could see [B] in another world with somebody else, this thing could [F#] easily go off the rails.
I kind of have the sense that everybody [E] on this video is having a really [A#] great time because
[B] there's no green screen, [F#m] there's no cheating.
It [B] really is like the way you would have [E] shot
a video a long time ago.
[B] It's a real joy to work with [N] Sam and I think
[E]
