[Bb] [N] This is T.
Rich here and I'm gonna try to pick apart a song that Jim Mills did on his
Bound to Ride album.
Hopefully I can do a good job.
What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna play it on CD first, just the beginning, listening at
Jim Mills and how he plays it.
I'm gonna try to do it again.
I'll turn off the CD and I'll do it again about that speed and then I'll slow it down
and go over a couple points.
[Bb]
So there it is.
I'm gonna try [N] my best to duplicate it and slow it down and go over a couple points.
[Bb]
[Gm]
[C] [Bb]
[F] So there you have it and I'll do it real slow and then I'll go over a couple [Bb] points.
[Abm] [Bbm] [Gm]
[Bb] One of the things [B] I'll go over is called [N] a pinch and that's between the thumb and the
middle finger and all you do is pick the top and bottom strings [Bb] at the same time [N] and
then you'll add your pointer finger [Bm] will pick the second string.
So you put those [Em] together and it'll [Bb] sound like this.
[N] Also he does a lot of pull-offs.
I have the capo at the third fret.
You go three frets up on the third string you'll start right there with the second
finger, your middle finger and there's gonna be three notes.
You're gonna pull off from the third fret to the second fret.
You're gonna note the second fret third string also.
So when you pull off it'll sound like this.
So if you can see I'll have a note of it on the second fret.
I'll keep it there but the first note is on the third fret and then you'll pull off [Bbm] and
then you're gonna pull off again.
It'll be actually three notes.
[Bb]
So you have [N] to incorporate that into a row from time and one of the things I do is my
first finger hits the second string open as I start to pull off I'll pull off on the first
[Eb] note then my [Db] first finger will hit that second string so it'll sound like this.
[Bb] [Bb] [Db] [D] [Bbm]
[Bb] [N] So hopefully that'll help somebody.
Now he does that a lot.
A lot of banjo players do.
Also on the first string starting at the third fret the same thing he'll do.
He'll hit the fifth string [Ebm] first and
[E] [Bb] hit the same [Bbm] thing as this.
[Db] It'll sound like this.
[Bb]
[Db] [Bb] So that's [N] some of the things here.
I'll go over it as close as I can again and hopefully I don't mess up [F] here.
[Bb]
[C] [Bb]
