Start Jamming...
This bloody heavy.
I thought it would be in a library with a half a dozen people.
It's
a big deal, isn't it?
Absolutely thrilled.
This geezer here.
We were both twisted at
birth, I think.
We pursued rock and [E] roll in lieu of mathematics.
[Bm] That's about it.
[D] There
was no brainer, really.
[Ab] I was [A] taken over [N] by rock and roll in the 50s by [D] a wayward sister
who was far smarter than me, grammar school and all that.
[E] I thought, if she's going to
grammar school [Eb] and she likes rock and roll, that's what I should be doing.
So I did that
and that's where I ended up here.
[N]
[D] I'm synonymous [Eb] with the [A] Fender Strat and that's really what
[B]
is the [D] most amazing tool ever because it responds [C] to touch.
So violin, but [E] for a rock
instrument like the Strat, it's given [C] me my life, really.
[N] Part of my whole being.
And
it's
there's no end to what it's capable of musically.
I don't like it.
I mean, verbs
good, obviously.
If you're doing a beautiful ballad, you need a bit of verb.
But if you
plug into pedals, that's what [Db] people are listening to.
They're not listening to the
[Ab] closeness of your fingers on the string.
And that's really [G] what you want.
[Db] The amplifier
is good because it brings out that touch.
But if you start going through too many [N] effects,
that's what people are going to be impressed with [Eb] rather than what you're doing.
Do you love blues?
[Bb] Yeah, I love [Eb] blues.
And they never had any [B] pedals.
No, they don't.
Well, [N] live.
I mean, live.
Just last night in [D] Dublin, amazing.
[B] There was so much warmth
coming that [Ab] everything I've gone through was worth it for that last night.
It's [Db] amazing.
Yeah.
And that's why [C] I think we all do it.
Because [E] to give out, [Ab] you get immediate gratification.
[N] It's nice to go home thinking that somebody's happier for that coming out.
Yeah.
Yeah, well, it's so
it's
honestly, it's so deserved for Jeff.
I mean, he's just
he's pioneered a guitar style which [Db] is second to no one.
I mean, he's [N] just totally unique.
And he's such a treasure in his whole playing.
And he really is in the total class of his own.
And, you know, he's stuck to his sort of guns of being an instrumentalist.
I mean, that's
the sort of thing, obviously, that he was
like we all were as kids, you know, [Db] listening
to the guitar solos on records.
But he's just developed this whole thing.
[C] And [Dbm] he's continued
to sort of mature and [Eb] develop through the [B] years.
And [D]
he's [Gb] [E] a phenomenon.
So we're lucky
to [A] have him here.
[G] The fact is that for Jeff and myself, but certainly [Abm] for what people
say to me, is the fact that what you've [Em] done through your life as far as playing and [Ab] the
commitment and passion [Abm] to the music, that if that inspires [Ab] young people to want to go
and, you know, to play and to make [E] their own music and their own statements, that's fantastic
to end up there.
Because, you know, both for Jeff and myself, it was our [F] hobbies and
our passion.
[N]
And to actually be able to make a living [G] out of that, but also to make [N] people
happy and turn them on.
Can't be any more fortunate, can you really?
