I just finished a tour with Alan Halsworth and Virgil Donati, so I have challenges on
both ends of the spectrum there with rhythm and harmony.
A lot of times I've found myself just trying to anchor all that.
You know, I have this little thing I do with vibrato as well that gives the note, you know, a vibe.
[C]
[Gb] [D] [E]
You can build a vocabulary that's extremely extensive, you know, and that's the goal.
I hung with Jaco Pastorius on and off for a year.
Even he, who had a gift, spent time working on Bach inventions and scales and melodic patterns.
We'll start with a low E.
That's the root.
[G] And then it goes to the minor third, which is G, [A] and the fourth, which is [N] A.
You can really use that as a template to create melodic lines, phrases, and patterns to enhance a [G] solo.
[E]
[G]
So the next inversion would start on the minor third, or the G.
[E]

[A] [G]
Sometimes I add what I've been calling a double diminished scale.
[C] [E] [D]
[Cm] [Bb] [E]
[G] [E] These are little things [D] that are already in [Eb] place, and [E] they're [N] basically like tools that
I [E] use [Bb] to get [E] things started.
[A] [C] [N]
