All right, I'm gonna sing the first song professional song that I ever wrote
I wrote a lot of them during the early 40s, but this one [A] I wrote and
[D] It turned out to be a [Gm] very professional song for [A] me.
I was in a [D] contest and
Well, I'd sung it by working with Bill Monroe
I wrote it in 1947 and
Then I worked with Bill Monroe on the Grand Ole Opry for about eight and a half or nine months and I featured this song
During the time on the Grand Ole Opry as well as on our personal appearances
and then [Gm] when I left Bill Monroe, I [A] came back into my hometown and opened a music store record store and
my partner and at that time we had to go to Charlotte, North Carolina to buy all of our recordings and
unbeknown to me she had entered me in a
Contest for Capitol Record Company there in Charlotte and when we went down to pick up the record
She said we're going over to see the show and I said what show well, the Capitol Records is holding a contest to select
Artists for the label.
I said I don't want to get involved with that
You know, I'm through with that for recording for a while
She said but I've already signed you up you go over
so I went over to the auditorium there and Tex Ritter good friend Tex Ritter and
Grady Cole and all of them were there and there was about five hundred and
twenty-two
Contestants all singing all different kinds of songs
so
When they call me out Tex Ritter was emceeing the show and he called me out and he said where's your band?
I said, I don't have a band.
[B] Well, what are you gonna sing?
I said I'm gonna sing my own composition and he said
Well, do you need any backup?
I said nope.
I was in a hurry to get out of there
I said nope.
I want to sing my song and go home.
He said well sing it
So I'll sung this song and
Then I left the auditorium got in my car and came back home to the record store packed my records and that night
They called me and told me that I'd won the contest.
I said out of
522 artists.
Yes you and your friend Tommy fail wanna
Record contract country songs.
Can you come back down tonight and record?
I said no way
I'll come back tomorrow
So I went back tomorrow and we went into the studio and at the time that we were doing that in the studio
The networks kept feeding through on all of our recordings
so we packed up all the gear and went down to the distributing house and down about a mile from where the station was and
we went in this
Distributing house and all stretched out and they brought a piano in and Fred Rose.
[Bb] He played the piano and Tex Ritter
[D] He played guitar and Tommy fail and all the guys and so this is the results of the first recording of Baby Blue Eyes
[A] later on I had to do it a [Db] number of times and other recordings that I had recorded them through the years and
When they released the rebel album the last album that we had last year
That my friend David Freeman at rebel [G] record company said I want to include this song back in there [Ab] because it's a very popular song
So that one is [D] also in our rebel recording and it's called baby blue eyes.
[A] [D]
I
Wonder if I'll ever forget you
and the full
That's true [A] ever dies I
Can't [D] forget
the kisses you gave me
our memories of [A] your
your baby [D] blue eyes
I'll [G] always keep
A [Db] memory [D] of you
[G] Visions of I
[Ab] Where's the sky?
That's why each [D] night
There's tears on my pillow.
I'm dreaming of you
[A] You baby [D] blue eyes
[A]
[D]
[A] [D]
Now one day is done and shadows are falling
While others sleep till [A] morning sunrise
I [D] lie awake
Just tossing and turning
I'm on it my dream
[A] our baby [D] blue eyes
I'll [G] always keep
a [D] memory of you
Visions [G] of eyes
As [Ab] blue as the skies
That's [D] why each night
There's tears on my pillow.
I'm dreaming of you

Your baby blue [D] eyes
