Hello, everybody.
Ever since I was a teenager, ever since I was a teenager, I've loved Emmalou Harris
and her music.
And last week in Nashville, I was given the opportunity to ask her how this next song came about.
And she told me it was when she'd just lost one of the most important people in her life,
Graham Parsons.
And she was on a plane one day, looking out the window.
There were serious fires going on at the time, and she watched the canyons on fire.
This inspired a very beautiful song written by her, Bill and Taffy Danoff.
So I'd like to honor my big idol and inspiration by singing one of the absolute favorite songs of hers.
Here is Boulder [D] to Birmingham.
I [Gm] [D]
[G] don't want to hear a love song
[Em] I [C] got on this airplane [G] just to fly
And I [D] know there's life below me But all that it can show [G] me
Is the prairie and the sky [D] And I don't want to hear [G] a sad story
[D] [Em] Full [C] of heartbreak [G] and desire [D] Last time I [Gm] felt like [D] this
It was in the [F#] wilderness [G] And the [G] campfire was on fire
[Bm] And [Em] I stood [A] on that mountain [C] And the night [G] watched it burn
And I [D] watched it burn And I [G] watched it burn
I [C] would rock my soul And [G] I'd pose on my favorite hand
And I would hold [D] my life In [G] a saving grace
So [C] I'll wait In [G] Boulder to Birmingham
If I [D] thought I could see I could [G] see your face
[E] Well [G#m] you really [A] got me this time
[E] And [F#m] the hardest [D] part is no [A] surviving
I've come [E] to listen For the sound
Of the trucks A [D] stable down
[C#m] If [A] I [G#m] [F#m] didn't pretend that [B] it's the ocean [E] [B] [D] Come and wash [A] me clean
To [E] wash me clean Baby do you [A] know what I [B] mean?
[C#m] [D] I'd rock my soul And I'd [A] pose on my favorite hand
And I would [E] hold my life In a [A] saving [C#] grace
[C#m] I'll walk [D]
[A] to Birmingham If I [E] thought I could see
I could see [A] your face If I thought [E] I could see
I could see [A] your face If I thought [E] I could see
I could [D] see your face
[A] [Bm] [A]
