How do you like it?
Boy, you look good.
How do you folks like it?
Huh?
That's USA Air Force right there.
Did you get to fly an F-16?
Oh, yeah.
I have time to tell you about it.
Well, tell me.
How much time you got?
Well, not a whole lot.
I mean, we can give you a little.
What, how many?
Two minutes?
Two and a half minutes.
That won't even get me to the airport, son.
You sit in there.
Where were you?
In Masawa, Japan.
Now, I'm going to tell you something.
I really started telling this story to the [B] Air Force as we were over [N] there.
Remember, we were going over to do the show?
And I started telling them fly boys, it got funnier and funnier.
You know, the F-16 ain't an airplane.
It's a rocket.
That's what it is.
They just put some wings on it, and they put idiots like me in it, and we go flying.
You know what I mean?
Well, I'll just take it from the runway, okay?
Because two and a half minutes ain't enough time, Ralph.
But Bubba said to me, Bubba was the pilot.
Now, [B] Bubba's a colonel.
He's been a [N] colonel for 85 years.
He don't want to be a general because he likes to play with the toys, see?
His name's Dave Ginney.
When they told me I was flying with Bubba, I knew I was in trouble, okay?
We're getting around, getting ready to take off, and Bubba says,
Now, I'm going to brief you, Jerry.
He said, Now, the F-16, we'll take off using the afterburner.
He said, Now, you're going to hear five pops.
He said, Now, what that is going to be is raw fuel going into the exhaust pipe back there,
and it's an explosion.
And every time you hear one of them explosions, we're going to pick up speed.
He said, And by the time we get to the end of this runway, we'll be doing [Eb] 450 knots.
I said, Fine, Bubba.
[B] He said, Now, you've got some people down at the end of the runway,
some of your band are down there in this observation building,
so I'm going to hold it at 30 feet.
And when we get down there to the observation building,
you can smile and wave at your friends.
I said, Fine, [E] Bubba.
He said, Well, are you ready?
I said, Yeah.
And Bubba put the pedal to the metal.
And I got to tell you, Ralph, that was the end of me.
Oh?
Bubba [N] says, Hang on.
And he went, Screwed like that.
I have never felt anything like that.
My eyeballs went flat.
It was horrible.
And here we're going.
Now, I'm sitting there like this.
And Bubba says, There's your friends over to the right.
Wave, Reed.
And I said, And then Bubba said, Hang on for the damnedest elevator ride you ever had.
Bubba shot straight up, straight up in the air in this F-16.
Now, let me tell you, the F-16 weighs 22,000 pounds.
And it's got 24,000 pounds of thrust.
So that means it can go straight up, picking up speed.
You know what I mean?
And that's what we was doing while we was going up.
And I remember trying desperately to scream.
I wanted to scream.
I was in the seat like this.
But I couldn't get my upper lip off of my lower lip.
It was just horrible.
Now, before I went on this ride, Ralph,
they took me in and gave me what they call egress training.
That's in case you have to punch out of an F-16.
I told the lady, Honey, I don't believe we can, I believe we can skip this
because I ain't going to leave.
Nobody's F-16.
She said, But if you do, you've got to have this training.
Now, I'm backing up a little bit.
This was before the flight.
[F] You sure two and a half minutes is all I got?
[A] Well, [Bb] what does that mean, white herd?
What do [Ab] you mean?
That [F] means you're two and a half minutes, you're up.
[Bbm] Tune in next week.
To see what [F] happens at 18,000 feet.
[Bb] [C] On [F] tonight's show, Jerry Reed, Bailey DuBois, Travis Gritt, Shotgun Ritz.
