[A#] You know [G] Jeremy Plato and the departed that's right Cody Canada and his bandmates in the departed acted as the backing band for their
2016 project called in retrospect
Basis Jeremy Plato takes on the front man duties on an album that pays tribute to traditional country music of the 60s and early
[C]
70s that was there [G] check it out
[C]
[C]
[G] You're going to play [C] that you box, [G] please [C] don't play
[G] [F#]
It [E] [D] is kind of [C] odd at times [A] because you know, I met Jeremy and he was playing metal and I was
[G] Kid [D] down the street, you know kind [G] of afraid of him because the music was [C] so angry, but we
Get in a band years later and I'm you know and find out that we're both
Huge fans of traditional country music, you know and always [C] have been that's kind of [F#] where my interest in music started was
Was what we consider classic [F] country today and I grew up around that
We've got a turntable on the back of the [G] bus.
So when we're still parked after the show
We'll sit back there and listen to [F#] records just [F] talking about
[G] Hey, man, we ought to do [D] this song.
Do this is pretty cool
[A] [C] And then it was [E] always well, you got to sing it
[A] You know
[E]
[Am] [A] [D]
[A]
[G] [D]
[A]
[C]
[D]
[C] We [A]
[A] did the record at the zone [Am] in dripping Springs
[F#] Pat Manske was the engineer great engineer
I've [G] worked with him before but we took [C] along some friends Cody angel from Jason Bowen and the stragglers
Cody [G] Braun come in and play fiddle for us, which you know
He was I thought he was a natural fit his fiddle playing style has always catered to especially that era of music
and older and then Jamie Lynn Wilson
[Bm] We had her sing backup on a lot of [D] the songs and then used her as a co-lead vocal on one of the [G] tracks that we did Cody Canada
[D] Said well, we're gonna make it won't be long
into a duet
And I was like, okay [G] cool
So I was listening to it for that and [D] figuring out how the how the verses should split kind of on the way to the studio I
Think Cody [C] you said you'd [G] listen to it like several times [D] a lot and thought that maybe we should just split it up
Like a like a duet [C] it's gonna be line by [Em] line
Maybe [D] like like I want to I want to try this where it's just line by line instead of verses
To where it sounds like an argument.
I [G] thought it sounded like a fight.
All right.
Yeah, [D] it's a I just I pictured them
Arguing from across the room, you know
[C] [G]
Now I can't even hear [D] the other way cuz it's so good it was so [B] good
[D] [G]
[D] And now you've got me hating things [C] I used to [G] [D] love to do
[C]
[D] Hope [F] that their fan base
Loves it and then [Dm] decides to look into Johnny Paycheck
Look into [C] old songs that we recorded and dig into [F#] the artist
[C] find their catalog and then that brings the whole music scene up a little bit because then
Everybody's a little bit more educated.
I love [F] those projects.
You can take a [G] new fan base
[C] Give them old music
Just walk on by
[Em] Wait [G] on the corner.
[F] I love you, but we're strangers
[C] You
