Jean-Jacques Burnel | The Stranglers chords
Start Jamming...
It's a very good question and it could end up being an existentialist answer.
[Eb]
[Db] [Bb] [Ab] [Gb] [Eb] [Gb]
[Eb] [Ab] [Gb] [Ab]
[Gb] [Eb] [Gb] [Ab] I
think [Gb] I am Jean-Jacques Vionnel and
I am here because I
Might my band were asked to play [Ab] here and we thought it might be a good idea
The band is the [G] Stranglers
[Fm] The one and only Stranglers from [Ab] UK the Stranglers are
[E]
Approaching their 40th birthday, which means we'll start wearing glasses as from next year.
I think
We started out as a bunch of blokes
Just wanting to play music and we really haven't sort of our mission statement hasn't really changed and people ask me
what how do you manage to stay together for the 40 years and I
I'm kind of always puzzled by the question.
We just get on well and we haven't really lost our
original mission statements and
And you know a little bit of success helps obviously it helps keep oil the the wheels [A] and
[E] We haven't we've done things our own way.
So there've been ups and downs and
There have been huge
Cataclysms in the in the history of the Stranglers, but it's I think we can
[Eb] Look at ourselves in the mirror and think oh, that's another gray hair
[Dbm] [Ab]
[N] Well, it's been so devalued, isn't [Abm] it?
So
It almost the point of being nothing
so it just
Doesn't
[Ab]
mean that much and you know, we're not you know
we're not joining the club just because we're throwing TVs out of the fucking hotels or taking cocaine or sleeping with
strange girls with exotic
Ailments every night.
It's kind of bit parsay
[Eb] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Dbm] One of them was being vindicated when we'd been written off by the [E] record company at the time
they said, you know punk's dead and blah blah and we've kind of
enforced [Abm] [E] a
Clause in our contract which meant that they had to release a single
Which they didn't want to release and it was a worldwide hit
So it allowed us gave some breathing space and also gave us a slight bit of [Eb] credibility
[Bb] [Ab]
well, it hasn't changed really because
You get a bunch of well you get one or two main
writers or originators in a band and then when the others get involved in it, it becomes part of their
Psyche which eliminates any money problems in the future.
So everything is signed the Stranglers
so you don't have one person getting all the royalties or the or the or the credit and
That's we've some one thing we've managed to avoid for 40 years
So I think that's an enviable position to find [Abm] oneself in and you know
We never started doing this just for money and people and that corrupts people, you know and power power
Ego and money corrupts relationships and changes dynamic within you know amongst
What [Eb] might have been previously friends and so that's one thing we've studiously avoided
With when new people come in they have to subscribe to the stranglers philosophy
we don't subscribe to theirs and they either fit in or they don't and
they'll tend to
fitting for a little [N] while
Without a doubt
When I was growing up, I was very fortunate to grow up in a little
[Abm] Town sort of satellite town to London
called Godalming and Guildford
And there was a pub there and I used to see
Before they were signed up bank or Peter [Ab] Green's Fleetwood Mac
So I'd be I'd be smuggled in because I was too young to be in a pub
because of the
licensing laws and
I used to see [Em] Peter Green's [Abm] Fleetwood Mac there quite [Ab] a few times before they signed up.
So it would have been
68 67 68 and I was we we last we laddie and
It was it [Eb] was kind of a revelation [N] really
Eat power pigs playing on the Heidelberg playing
Johan Sebastian back on the Heidelberg organ.
[E] I
think if you like music you don't you're not tribal and
You music's meant to [Abm] expand the mind not narrow it so
I like all kinds [D] of [Eb] music if they touch me they touch me
[Gb] [Ab] [E]
People know me will will never be surprised by anything that I do
When I apply myself, I'm pretty good cook
I'm a good date and
I try to learn about wines.
Why do you want to learn about wines because you're also fucking
Cuz I'm French Good night
