What's up you guys today I want to do something that is a little more close to my heart in terms of the music that I love
Because I've just been listening to a lot of like pop country lately and stuff that I haven't really clicked with
But i've been saving one because I know
One of the top comments on a video like a month ago
Maybe was I wanted to react to something by Jason Isbell who I love and I put him on my top 10 lists in the past
And um, I just think he's the most remarkable songwriter and I love that he writes his stuff himself
And he just feels real and raw and moves my soul
Um, and so I [A] really appreciate his [N] contribution
Contributions to music he's putting out music right now with the 400 unit Jason Isbell and the 400 unit
And there's this song that he even on twitter said was
As fine of a song as he's ever written and it's called if we were vampires
and I am
Dying to listen to it and I haven't yet.
I've stayed strong
And um because I'd heard the first single off this project on the radio and stuff in town
106 one the corner a great station if you're ever in charlottesville, and um
So i'm gonna listen to if we were vampires see what [A] I think of it and I [Dm] hope to like it
[Am] [Dm]
Sounds nice.
Also
[F] I think i'm [C] probably the only youtuber that's done a chase and [G] isbell reaction.
[Am] Of course.
I talked over the beginning [Bb] i'm gonna [C] rewind
[G] [F] [Am] [Bb]
[Dm]
[F] [Cm] [Dm] So
[C] [F] [C]
when I say I like specifics [N] in songwriting
This is the stuff I mean he's talking about her nails.
He's talking about her dress.
He's talking about a specific woman
There's nothing about this.
That's just vague platitudes
and his voice is very
[Bb] pulled back
[F] [Bb]
[F] [C]
[Bb] Maybe we'll get 40 [Dm] years together
[C] [F] [Bb] [C]
[Dm] [Am] [Bb]
[Dm] [Am]
[Bb] [C] [G]
[Dm] [A] [Bb]
[Dm] [Am] [Bb]
[F]
[Bb] Joe
Damn
I've never heard a love song like this.
[F] Like maybe [C] death is a gift because it means [Bb] this time is valuable now
[Dm]
[C] [F] [Bb] A.l..b. [Gm] Yeah, this is [Dm] uncharted territory for me in the love [Am] song territory [Bb] Mortality [Dm] aspect of it [F] And now i'm just considering someone's going to be [Dm] left behind if one of them dies first [F] And probably one of them will die first [Am] I'm, guessing this was not the theme [Gm] song of twilight [Bb] But it would be [Dm] funny if jason isbell had tried to [F] Submit a song for the twilight soundtrack [Bb] [F] [C] [Dm]
[Am] [Bb]
[N]
I I I I I I I I I I I I I I'll work hard till the end of my shift and give you every second I can find and hope it isn't me who's left behind damn People try so hard to make beautiful good music And a lot of people make beautiful good music and a lot of people miss the mark and [Ab] just try to dress up [A] something That's that's not deep or beautiful or good to begin with And what I love about jason isbell [Bb] and I have to [Abm] guess that's his wife. Amanda [A] amanda [B] shires that is Singing with him what I [A] love about both of them is they they can just take the truth And put it with a guitar and it sounds like there's maybe a little cello in this and that's enough to make something Beautiful because [Ebm] it's true and the truth is [N] the most beautiful thing in music. That's what makes things That's what moves the soul. We can [Bb] feel that honesty um This is a lovely and morbid Love song it is acknowledging our mortality [Abm] acknowledging the fact that we're going to [C] die And acknowledging [A] the ways in which that is sad and the ways in which that [Eb] makes love valuable and life important my other favorite jason isbell song is a [Abm] song called [A] elephant about someone dying from cancer [B] and this this is like one of his [N] sweet spots as a songwriter is he captures an imagination about our temporariness that is Pretty astounding. I also want to look at this first verse where it says it's not the long flowing dress The light coming off your skin the fragile heart you protected the mercy in your sense of right and wrong It's not your hands searching slow in the dark or your nails leaving love's watermark Damn little scratches love's watermark um It's not the way you talk me off the roof Your questions like directions to the truth. Those are the words of someone that knows someone else well and values parts of their being and their physicality and their Uh look in their soul that is so much more romantic than Some sunset kiss on the beach or whatever some trite image of love is from like a sandals resort ad Jason's songwriting for me stirs up a sense of wonder When I hear good music, that's always the word that comes to mind And I remember that clicked with me once at an avid brothers concert when they were singing souls like the wheels That word wonder where it's like wow, the world is mysterious and strange And i'm taking part in this almost religious act in watching and listening to [C] this music And that's what jason's [Ab] music does for me is it stirs up wonder in [N] my heart And i'm so happy to have heard this song and now I can listen to it a bunch of times I really have been avoiding it until i'm ready to uh To to listen and just it's funny enough that it's sandwiched in between Kelsey ballerini review and carrie underwood wednesday But I want this channel to have a breadth of country music on it or americana or whatever you want to call it because there's There's so much out there and there can be pop country stuff and there can be a [B] top shelf That's like a little more [A] independent a little less radio friendly, but more grady [C] friendly Grady-o friendly i'm not gonna say that. Oh, this [Ab] gets five years out of five. It's beautiful [A] [B]
