Hi, I'm Rob Harris from [Eb] Jamiroquai and this is ACM.
[D] [E]
I play guitar with Jamiroquai.
I've been with the band for the last 18 years.
[Em] I've [C] just been here today doing a masterclass with the ACM.
[Dm] I discuss [Am] sort of the auditioning process and how I got the job with the band.
I talk a [E] little bit about doing sessions and [D] my approach to music,
how I come at it from a very rhythmic point of view
and [D] talk about listening to other musicians and drummers and bass players [B] etc.
[A]
[G]
Part of my job in [B] this band, [E] there's a lot of stuff going [D] on on the tracks.
There's a bass line, quite a busy [C] bass line, keyboard [Em] parts, horns, the vocals are very [A] syncopated.
So what I did was instead [Bm] of going,
[Em] [A]
[Bm] what I do is I want the guitar part so it cuts through.
I [Ab] try and make the chords as small as possible [Bb] so I just take two [D] notes.
[G]
[Db] [Bm] [Eb] When I did that everyone was like, yeah, that's it, it's great.
So now every time we play that song, as [A] soon as I go, [D]
everyone knows exactly what the song [N] is
and hopefully they get into it instantly.
So [Gb] in that band part of my job is to find guitar parts that are signature type.
[E]
[Eb] [D]
The [G] rhythm section in [E] Jamiroquai is great.
Paul and Derek are the most amazing musicians to play with.
It's like a nice comfy [Em] sofa.
I sit down and I'm like, ah, that's great, because I don't have to do much.
[D] They're very easy to work with and play with.
So when I get in [E] a room with a new drummer and a [A] new bass [Gm] player [E] that I've not worked with before,
I instantly start listening.
I'm watching the drummer, [D] I'm watching the bass player's [C] movement, how does he move with the drums,
[E] what's his hi-hat pattern like on [A] the kit, how do I fit into that, [G] how do I sit with [E] that.
And I then try and work out how to adjust my playing [C] to fit in with [F] their pocket
[E] or whoever's pocket is [A] the strongest.
So that's what I'm doing.
[G] Whenever I go to a session and I'm [Gb] working with people, I'm listening a lot.
I'm still playing, but I'm trying to get [E] myself to fit with them.
It's really [Db] important.

[D] I've been to ACM quite a few [Ab] times over the years.
[Em] I've always found it fun.
[G] I love the [Dm] facility, it's great.
It's [Em] a really exciting place to be.
I [E] like the buzz of walking around and seeing music.
Everyone's [Ab] milling around in the corridors talking about [D] music.
[E] There's music everywhere, [Gm] basically.
So yeah, it would have been [B] great to have had it when [E] I was coming up.
Very, very [Eb] good facility.
Really great place [Em] to go.
