[F#m]
[B] What [A] good is your [D] happy [A] life?
[B] All you [A] wanted from [A] the start was to [B] cry
[F#] It looks like another fall
[E] [F#m]
[E] Your good friends, they don't seem to help at all now
[F#m] When you're feeling [F#] kinda cold [E] and small
Just [F#m]
[F#] call on your rainy [E] day man
[F#m] It does you [F#] no good to [E] pretend, child
You [F#m]
[F#] made a hole [E] much too big to mend now
[F#m] And it looks [F#] like you'll lose again, [E] my friend
So [F#m]
[F#] call on your rainy [E] day man
I [C#m] said [F#] rainy day [A] man don't like [G#m] sunshine
You don't chase [B] no rainbows, [A] you don't [G#m] need good times
Great day [F#] is rolling, [A] then you'll see him
[G#] Empty [G#m] feeling, [F#] Lord now you need him
[F#m]
[F#] All those [E] noble thoughts, they don't [F#] belong
You can't hide the truth with a happy [E] song
[F#m] And since you knew [F#] where you stood all [E] along
Time to go on home [F#m] and call on your [F#] rainy day [E] man
[B] Now [C#m] simple pleasures, they [G#] all [G#m] evade you
[E] Store-bought [B] pleasures, [G#] none can save you, no
Now [C#m] look for [B]
signs to [G#m] ease the pain
[G#] Ask again, [F#m] child, pray for rain
And it looks [F#] like another fall
Your friends, they don't seem [E] to help at all
[F#m] When you're feeling [A] kinda cold and [E] small
[F#m] Just call on [F#] your rainy day [E] man
All I need is just [F#m] a look up my [B] rainy [E] plan
[F#]

Well, we were in, uh, we played this eight-month long gig
at a place called the Night Owl Cafe
in, uh, down in Greenwich Village in New York
on, uh, it used to be at Magool and Third
but it might have moved since then, I don't know
but anyhow, uh, at that time there were a lot of
so-called blues groups in New York City, you know
and they were making a lot of noise
with, uh, with electric guitars and amplifiers
that their parents had bought them for Christmas
and their birthdays and stuff
and their idea of soul was volume, they'd just crank it up, you know
and they were singing all these heavy songs, uh
like, uh, I'm a Man or I'm a Jackhammer
or I'm a Steamship or whatever
from the Queen Mary or
We weren't to be left out of all this
so I wrote this next song, uh
which is the heaviest blues tune on a note, ladies and gentlemen
