[N]
[C] Handyman is in [Ab] the key of D [E] and the introduction [Ab] runs from bars 1 to 9 of the [D] tab.
[Ab] The reason it's 1 [Bb] to 9 and not [A] 1 to 8 is because the first [Ab] bar is a very short pickup.
[F]
Here's the [N] intro.
[A] [D]
[A] [B] [D]
[A] [Bm]
[D] [A] [B]
[D] [A]
[B] [D]
So we're starting with a little [Ab] bass introduction on the fifth string.
You're going to hammer open to second fret quickly.
[Bm]
And that's leading to the open fourth string of the D chord.
So [Eb] you're going to play that [Ab] at the beginning of what you see as bar 2 of the [A] tab
and make a [Gb] D chord as you play that fourth string.
Bar 2 of the tab we'll [D] play 4, 3, 2, 1.
So [F] this little hammer on here is on an imaginary first bar that's going 4 [A]-e-and [B]-a
and then [Ab] 1 is the fourth string open in the D [Dm] chord.
1 and 2 [D]
and is the rhythm and it rings across the rest of the bar.
[A] And [Dm] a 1 and 2 [D]
and 3 and 4 and
then [Ab] we go to an A chord where we'll play [A] 5, 4 and 3
and a B minor chord where we'll play 5, 4 and 3
[B] then he just touches the fifth string and then goes back to the bass hammer on.
[A] So 1 and 2 [B] and and
and [Dm] a 1 is the arrival of bar 4 in [C] the D chord again where you'll play the same thing as before
[D]
and 3 and 4 and
A to B minor as [A] before.
[B] The difference here is as he begins slowly to fill the texture out
after that B minor chord 5, 4 and 3
he plays 5, 3 [A] and the bass hammer on
so that you get 1 and 2 [B] and
and 4 and [D] low 1 is bar 6 in the D chord again
where you'll play 4, 3, 2, 1 again
and then on the fourth beat 3 and 2 together
1 and 2 and 3 and 4
[Dm] again he's fleshing out the texture now.
[Ab] The A to B minor at bar 7 is the same as it was at bar 5
[A]
[B] actually he puts an extra fifth string note in there
so we're [D] going A chord 5, 4 [Am] and 3
and then 5 as you're moving to [B] B minor where it's 5, 4 and 3
and then 5, 3, hammer on
[A]
1 and 2 [B] and
and 4 [E] and A
and [Bb] what happens [Ab] now at bars 8 and 9 is you repeat bars 6 [N] and 7
[D] [A]
[B] [D] and that final fourth [Dm] string open there is [C] the first note [Dm] of bar 10 at the beginning of the verse
so let me play the intro [Ab] through again slowly for you here from the beginning
[A] [D]
3 and [A] 4 and
[Bm]
[D]
3 and 4 [A] and
and
[B] [D]
[A]
[B] [D]
[A]
[B]
that was the first note of bar 10
