Hi everybody, it's a great pleasure to be with you tonight to celebrate the leadership
and the incredible work of Roger Brown at Berklee School of Music.
I have never had the musical chops or the understanding of theory to attend Berklee
myself but I've had the good fortune to work with many people who have, both in the engineering
field and in terms of their musicianship.
As a matter of fact, the guy that runs my studio is somebody that I wrote a letter to
Berklee to get admitted to Berklee long ago.
Now he runs my studio and he runs Rick Rubin's studio.
I think he went from Berklee to a job at Kinko's for a while to prepare him ultimately for
life in the music business.
But yeah, I just want to congratulate you Roger on your incredible stewardship of all
these young minds, young musicians [C] and essential work going forward in training them and preparing
them for a life in music.
I'm going to give you this song of mine, The Pretender.

[F] I'm going to rent myself a house in the shade [Bb] of a sweet wind.
[F] Going to pack my lunch in the morning and go [C] to work each [Bb] day.

[F] I'll go home and lay my [Bb] body down.

[C] [F] Amen, [Bb] [F] amen.
[C] I [F] want to know what became of the changes we waited [Bb] for love to bring.
Were [F] they only the fitful dreams of some greater [C] awakening?
[Bb] I've
[F] been aware of the time going [Bb] by.
[F] They say in the end it's the wink of an [Bb] eye.
[F] When the morning light comes [C] streaming in, you'll get up [Gm] and do it again.

Yeah.

Out into [Bb] the cool of the evening [C]
strolls the [Dm] pretender.

[Bb] Oh, the [F] laughter of the lovers [C] as they run through the [F] night.
