Start Jamming...
I'm Chris.
I'm Noah.
And I'm Carrie and you're watching Ambie.
Hey everyone, it's Alicia from Ambie and I'd like to welcome you to interview with Bad Bad Hats.
How are ya?
Fine, thank you.
Good, thanks.
Thanks for having a chat today.
Yeah, no problem.
So you're now touring [E] with Hey Marseille across North America.
This is a winter tour.
How are you enjoying your time on the road?
[Ab] It's going very well so far in that it is not very wintry despite being a winter tour.
Well so far.
Especially in Canada.
Yes.
Yeah, but the weather's been beautiful.
Hey Marseille is a great great group of guys.
So it's been yeah, it's been really fun.
Very easygoing so far.
I saw that you're having some issues getting everything into your van.
It's a very common problem.
We like to call it like Van Tetris.
Yes.
Do you guys end up figuring it out in the end?
Yeah, three days later.
Yeah, we figured it out.
We have a great system.
It took us longer than it has in past tours, but we got it now.
Yeah, [G] have you come across anything a little bit annoying or any other problems other than the van or it's been pretty smooth sailing?
I think it's been pretty good.
That's good.
Yeah.
I'm not annoying right now.
And how about the best moments of the tour so [Bb] far?
We went to Niagara Falls today, which is super cool.
Yeah, that was really cool.
Just being able to travel so much and play music is the whole thing is pretty cool.
Yeah, this is our first time out of the country out of the US playing.
So that's the highlight for me.
Yeah, for sure.
[Eb] This is your first time over in Canada in general then?
With the band.
Just as a band.
Yeah.
I was on your website and I noticed that the [E] background is a roller coaster.
I couldn't really find any [Eb] context.
I was like, do you guys like thrill seekers?
Do you love parks?
[Gm] What's going on with that?
I don't think we've ever been on a [Gb] roller coaster together, which is too bad.
We [Bb] should really do that.
Now I'm thinking about it.
But basically it was just a photo that I took
a long [A] time ago and we were just looking for something and it felt fun and bright and like us.
[Eb] Yeah.
Like the little compliment towards yourself in that?
You dropped your debut record Psychic Reader last summer.
I really really like [B] this album.
It's poppy, [Bb] grungy.
It's like sultry at times.
Is there anything in the works for album number two?
Yeah, a little bit.
We haven't recorded anything yet, but I've been working on some some songs.
Yeah, always the wheels are always turning, you know.
But hopefully, I don't know.
Hopefully 2017, but I'm not gonna push it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's exciting.
[Eb] Yeah.
One thing I loved about the debut is it seemed like it was about a love that you could almost never have.
Whether it was someone not liking you back or a long-distance relationship.
Are you kind of hopeless romantic?
Most of them are love songs on the album.
Where did that come [Bb] from?
Yeah, in some ways I think so.
I just like a good love story.
I like a good rom-com.
So I think I pull from that love trying to tell those kinds of stories.
But yeah, I've been in a relationship for a long time.
So [Eb] I'm certainly not in a long-distance relationship now, but I was before.
Yeah.
There are so many good ones, I think we were talking about this the other day.
Do you have one?
When Harry Met Sally.
Oh, yeah.
That's a great one.
I do like that.
Some Kind of Wonderful is an
underappreciated John Hughes film that I really like.
But the ones I grew up on were
10 Things I Hate About You and She's All That.
And By Watch She's All That like many years later.
Not quite as good when you're older, but it was
[Bb] excellent at 13 or whenever I saw it.
Well off the debut a song that I absolutely loved was All Nighter.
For me a lot of my friends and family members are further away.
They don't live in Toronto.
So I just connected with it instantly.
The lyrics are beautiful.
Thank you.
Can you just tell me a bit more about the song?
Yeah, that's that's one of Chris's favorites too.
And yeah, I wanted to write a song
basically just about
like staying up with your cell phone in bed and
there [A] was a time where I slept with my cell phone underneath my
pillow because I wanted to go to sleep, but I wanted to be woken up just in case anyone
important was trying to reach me to tell me [Eb] something important.
And I was just sort of yeah, I really liked that image.
It was funny thinking back on doing that and I wanted to write a song about that.
I think a lot of people it happens to them.
A lot of people actually admit [N] that they do that.
So it was really cool hearing that.
Yeah, I'm glad.
You've all known one another since college.
Outside of music and performing together, what do you guys like to do?
Go out to eat.
All the time.
Yeah, we do we do do a lot of eating and we do a lot of music shopping.
Like we were at a record store in Chicago and I dropped like $80.
Just like an idiot.
[Ebm] Yeah, we do a lot of music shopping.
We've been known to play a video game or two.
Super [A] Smash.
Super Smash?
[G] Who's your go-to character on that?
Oh, thank you for asking.
Link.
You're not Link.
Yes, I am.
Dude, you're Pikachu every time.
Pikachu and Link.
I'm always Samus.
And I'm Toon Link.
Yeah, yeah.
You guys change the colors around while you play?
Oh, yeah.
I was like, Falcon Punch!
I know you guys have a show to play very soon.
So just for the final question, anything you [D] want to say to your fans who will be viewing the interview?
Well, thank you would be a big one.
Yeah, thank you for listening to us and for watching this interview.
Yeah, I don't know.
Helping us get to Toronto.
Yeah
Yeah
[N]
Just thank you for your time today.
