Alright, here's an instruction on how to play the I Love Rock and [E] Roll Guitar Solo.
Start off with an E5 power chord.
That's just top string open, [B] and then the A string, second fret.
Now what I do here is play the power chord, [F#] stop it, then do what I call the check out.
[E] So, one, two, and a.
There's the rhythm.
One, two, and a.
[E] Just touch the strings lightly.
I even touch with my palm [G] down on the bridge here, and give a [E] down up for the chuck.
[G] Now you're just going to play a G here, play it twice, second time you bend it.
[E] Back to the E5.
[G] [E] [A] So I got a little harmonic there, I'm kind of touch and go with the [G] harmonics, but you
can give it a little harmonic, gives it some character.
[E]
[Em] Okay, now we've got an E7 here.
[G] You're going to be, you've got second, first, and third finger in a shape much like [D] a D7.
Everyone learns this in those books in the very [E] beginning.
So you've got [G] this little backwards triangle here, three adjacent strings, second finger
and third finger on the same fret on the seventh [Bm] fret [E] on the A and the G strings.
Skipping over the D string, your first finger goes on that D string on the sixth fret, so
right behind the other two fingers.
So,
[B] you're on the [N] seventh fret.
I can see that.
A string seventh fret, [E] G string seventh fret, first finger on the D string right behind
on the sixth.
Give it a little wiggle for effect.
From the top.
E5, stop, [G] chuck a G, bend.
With [E] harmonics if you can, that was luck.
Back to E5, E, sorry E7, again.
One, [G] two, and a three and [E] four.
One, two, three, four, [F#] and one and.
I might have the counting [E] wrong on that.
[B] Three, four, and [E] one.
Okay, so one, two, [G] and a three and four.
One, two, three, four, [E] and one.
[G] Moving on to the section at the ninth fret here.
We're in the fifth pattern.
If you don't know your pentatonic patterns, [E] now would be a good time to memorize at least this one.
[C#m] We've got one, [E] four, one, three, [F#]
one, three, one, three, one, [E] four, one, four.
Back down.
[G#m] Three, one, [B] three, one, three, one, [C#m]
four, one.
[C] First finger on the ninth fret, pinky on the twelfth, [Em] third finger on the eleventh, and
you don't use your second finger.
[Bm] So on the D string, slide from wherever you want [C#m] [A] up to the third finger note of the fifth
pattern, which just [Em] so happens to be on the eleventh fret.
Don't think of it as the eleventh [G] fret.
Think of it as the [E] notes within the pattern.
[F#] And then you just walk up.
[G#m] So slide, walk, [F#] up, bend.
[E] Again.
Slide, walk, [F#] up, [Em] bend.
We're just going straight through the scale here.
[Bm] [E] You bend your pinky note.
Now the pinky's on the twelfth fret, right?
Why is the pinky on the twelfth fret?
Because that's the pattern.
Slide, walk, [Bm] up, bend, pinky, bend, [Am] pinky.
So you're going to bend it twice.
In between [Bm] the two bends, you don't want to hear [F#] the note come back down.
So as you bend up, [E] you just kind of let off the [F#] pressure as you come back down.
Or you can stop the note with your right hand.
But you want to bend, [C#] pinky, stop the [F#] note, bend, pinky, [E] stop the note.
Slide, walk, up, bend, [B] pinky, bend, pinky.
Up, down, pull [Bm] off.
Hammer.
Up, down.
[G#] What's different here?
We can hear the three notes.
One, [E] two, three.
[B] Da-da-ba.
[G#] One, two, three, hammer.
One, two, three, hammer.
One, two, hammer on.
[Bm] However you want to say it.
One, two, hammer [E] on, walk.
Three, four.
Two, three.
[Bm]
[Em] [Bm] [E]
[D#] [C#]
[B] [A] [E]
And [D#m] a one, and [C#] a two, and [B] a three, and a four, and [G#] a three, [E] four.
[Em] Slowly.
One, two, three.
[D#] [C#] [B]
[G#] [C#m] [E]
Memorize [B] your pattern.
Become familiar with the major scale that we're descending here.
