Hi, I'm Clint and today we're going to be learning the chords for I'll Fly Away along
with a few rhythm tricks and I'm going to [E] throw in there.
So I'm going to play the chords and sing one of the verses.
The chord progression is [D] exactly the same for the chorus.
So I'll just play the verse once.
[C] [G] [D]
[A]
[G] So I'm doing a pretty, just again a pretty standard boom shuck pattern which is your
[D] one and your five tones.
We're playing on a G right here so we have our one [C] chord which is a G, four chord is
your C, five chord is your [D] D.
So we're starting on the [G#] one and I'm doing a boom shuck so we're
hitting the bass notes on the one and the three beats again which [G] is the sixth string
and the fifth string and your G chord so that's your [D] one tone and that's your five tone.
[G] So it's going to sound like one, two, [D] three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three,
four and the little thing I'm adding with the G chord is I play my G chord with the
added D note [C#] up here so I have my index finger and my [D] middle finger down here on the sixth
string and I like to hammer on for that first beat in the measure pretty much every time.
Not [A] every time but at least [F#m] half the time I'll be hammering on into [G] that note.
[D] And [G] I also add in a little flourish there between the around the third [F] and the fourth
beats which is two up [G] strokes so one, two, three and four and one, three and four and
[D] one, three and four and one, three and four and one.
[Am] And then the other thing I'm doing is I'm adding just a simple seven chord going into
the to our four chord, [C] our G7.
I'm not playing [G] it how you may have learned it in the [N] past.
Since I'm playing it with [G] the extra D note here I've got my index finger and my middle
finger down here.
I'm just going to [N] move my middle finger to the third [Cm] fret of the fifth string, of the
[F] fourth string excuse me, right [G] there [D] which is sort of a modified G7 that's easier to get to.
[G] [N] And then the other thing I'm doing is I'm just doing a little simple walk into the five
chord out of the G [D] so.
Which is just a slide front with I'm using my middle finger slide from the third fret
on the A string to [G] the fourth fret on the A string, the fifth string.
And then the [G#] last thing I'm doing is just a little tag [F] half G run on the end, a full
G run would [D] sound like.
But I'm just doing two notes or yeah three notes with [E] my index finger here because it's
free to move around out of [G] this G chord.
So that's it.
