[A] [Bm] [Am]
[E]
[N] Here are the chords needed to play the song.
All these chords are in reference to a capo in the second fret.
So the names are the names of the open position chords.
You'll need a D, an A with a C-sharp bass note, a B minor, G, A, E, F-sharp minor, F-sharp major, and a B.
Let's take a look at the chords that are needed.
Here's the capo in the second [E] fret.
So when I call this a D, it's in reference to the open position shape that we're using.
So, a D,
[B] A, C-sharp bass note, [C#m] B minor, [A] G bar chord, [B] A,
[F#] E, [G#m] F-sharp minor makes an appearance, [G#] F-sharp major as well, [D] [C#] and a B.
[E]
[F#] [E]
[F#m] [E]
Like the pine [B] trees lying in the [C#m] winding road, I've [A] got a name, [B]
I've [E] got a name.
[F#m] [E]
Like the [B] singing bird and the [C#m] croaking toad, I've got [F#] a name, [B] I've got a name.
[G#m] And I [A] carry it with me [E] like my daddy did, [G#] but I'm [F#m] living [C#m] the dream [E]
[F#] that he [B] kept in.
[G#m] Moving me down [A] the highway, [G#m] rolling [C#] me down the highway, [A] moving [B] ahead so life won't [D] pass me [A] by.
[Bm] [A] [Bm] [A]
[B] [A] [E]
Like the [G#m] north wind whistling [C#m] down the sky, [E] I've got [A] a song, [B] I've [E] got a song.
[F#m] [E]
Like the [B] whippoorwill and the [C#m]
baby's cry, I've [B] got a [F#] song, I've [B] got a song.
[G#m] And I [A] carry it with me [E] and I sing it loud, [G#] if it [C#m] gets me nowhere, [F#]
I'll go [B] there proud.
[G#m] Moving me down [A] the highway, [G#m] rolling me [C#] down the highway, [A] moving [B] ahead so life won't pass [D] me by.
[C#] [B] [A]
[B]
[Em]
[B]
[C#]
[B]
[Em] [G#m] [C#]
[D#] [E] And I'm gonna go there free, like the [B] fool I am and I'll [C#m] always be.
I've [A] got a dream, [B] I've got a [E] [F#m] dream.
[E] They can [B] change their mind but they [C#m] can't change me.
I've [E] got [F#] a dream, I've [B] got a dream.
[G#m]
I [A] know I can share it [E] if you want me to.
[G#] If you're [E] [C#m] going my way, [F#] I'll [B] go with you.
[G#m] Moving me down [A] the highway, [B] [G#m] rolling me [C#] down the highway, [A] moving [B] ahead so life won't pass [D] me [C#m]
by.
[Bm] [A] [G#m] Moving me [A] down the highway, [G#m] rolling me [C#] down the highway, [E] [A] moving [B] ahead so life won't pass [D] me [A] by.
[B] [A]
[B] [D] [C#m] [Bm] [A]
[B] [E] Here's that intro riff in slow motion.
[F#m] [E]
[F#m]
[E]
[N] These three chord charts break the main riff into smaller pieces.
So it starts off like a D shape, but then notes are changed so that you get different kind of anchor chords during the course of the riff.
The intro riff [E] sounds like this.
[F#m]
[E]
[F#m] [A] [E]
What I'm doing there is basically starting off with a D chord, [F#]
[Bm] and that's that first [F#] different chord.
[E]
[F#] I've moved my first finger up to the fourth string, removed my second finger, and I'm plucking fourth and first strings.
[Bm] So it starts off like a [E] D,
[F#] that's that first different chord.
[A]
[Em] And then I'm putting my fourth finger on the fourth string, [B]
[C#] hammering on [A#] to the second fret of the [G#] first string, my first finger, [A] and then pulling [C#m] it right off.
[A] [E]
Back to the D.
So it's chord, a couple fingerpick notes, [F#] next [F#m] chord, fingerpick notes, [C#m] next chord, fingerpick notes, and that hammer-on and pull-off combination on that third shape.
So when you get that pinky on the fourth string, [F#m] [E]
[F#m] [E]
[F#m] [E]
and then when you go back to the D, hammer-on that second finger note.
So you can get as creative as you want with the fingerpicking after all that.
The first verse, [N] right after [F#] it says, I've got [B] a name, you go to that [E] A and you're adding those extra notes.
It [B] sounds like, so you're adding off that A on the second [Em] string, third [B] fret, and then fifth fret.
[Em] The little riff on the C chord sounds [D] like this.
[A] [B]
[A] [B]
[Cm] And what it is, is start off with the [D] C, hit strings 5-4-3, down [A] to the B note, 5-4-3 [B] again, A minor, same strings, then you're [A] hitting G, 6-4-3, [G#m] [B]
[A#] and then [G#m] your second [A] fret, third [B] fret, open fifth string.
[D] [A]
[B] [A] [B]
[E] Here's the guitar solo, played slow, so you can see what's going on.
[Bm]
[Em]
[B]
[C#]
[G#] [A] [C#]
[Bm]
[Em] [D#]
[B] [D#]
[Em] [B] [E]
