[Eb] [Bbm] [Ab] [Gb]
[Eb] [Db] Hi there, I'm Hugh Cornwell and I'm [Gb] going to give you my [B] top five rock albums of all time.
[Gb] The first [Eb] one I'd like to talk about [B] is [Gb] Soft Machine [B] Volume 1, which was the [Gb] first album they made.
Surprisingly [B] enough, there isn't a guitar in [G] sight on this album, it's just a three-piece.
The wonderful [F] Robert Wyatt on drums and [C] vocals, [G]
[D] Kevin Ayres on bass [F] and Mike Ratlidge [G] on keyboards.
The things that these three [D]
create are [F] mind-boggling.
[C]
The album is just almost like one long song.
[Bb] Each piece [C] breaks perfectly into, [Gm] seamlessly into the next.
It's a wonderful experience.
[C] It's one of the first [Gm] rock [F] albums to be [C] made in mixed-in stereo as [F] well.
[Gm] The second one I'd like to [C] talk about is [Gm] by one of my favourite bands of all time, Love, [F] from [Gm] Los Angeles.
Led by genius songwriter Arthur Lee.
They were [D] pop, punk, [Abm] garage and psychedelic.
Four [Db] fabulous [Ebm] [D] ingredients.
[B] The album I'm going to [Bbm] pick is [Ebm] called Da [Dm] Capo, which featured seven great songs on side one.
Side two [B] was a long [D] jam, just recorded live.
[Eb] It's [Bm] a fantastic piece of work.
[D] Very [G]
[Bm] unusual combination to have seven [D] songs on one side, perfectly [Em] reduced.
And then a [G] real rough and ready [A] recording of a song on the other side, that runs for [C] about 20 minutes.
The third [Eb] album I'm going to go to [G] is by another West Coast band called Spirit.
Which was led by Randy California and his uncle was the [E] drummer, called Ed Cassidy.
[D] They made an album called [E] Twelve Dreams of Dr.
[D] Sardonicus, which shows [E] wonderful songwriting.
[D] I've loved listening to this record.
Probably taught [A] me something about writing songs as well.
[E] Subtly.
[D] The next one I'd like to talk about [E] is a Velvet Underground album [Eb] called [Bbm] Loaded.
Which is not so well known as the [Eb] others.
[Db] It was [Bb] [Gb]
the last one [B] that Lou Reed was involved [Gb] in.
[B] Again, a fabulous collection of [Gb] songs.
[B] I'm surprised it's [Gb] not as well known [B] as the other ones.
[G] Finally, my fifth album is by a personal favourite of [F] mine, Moe's Allison.
Not [C] quite rock, but on the [D] borderline with rock and jazz.
[F] He was a [G] keyboard player, a half-caste keyboard player.
[Cm] Came from [D] Louisiana.
Sang [F]
[G] The Blooms.
Wrote fabulous little witty [Bb] songs.
But [C] he's not known for his singing.
So [Gm] the album I'm going to go for features his singing.
It's really a compilation [Cm] album called [F] Moe's Allison Sings [C] and Plays.
A wonderful [F] collection of him just [G] playing piano [C] in [Gm] a trio.
[F] And also [Gm] the [C] added bonus [G] [F] of about half [G] the songs on the album are him featuring [Gm] his voice singing.
It's [Bm] a treat.
It's a real treat.
[D] God rest his soul, Moe's Allison.
[G] Anyway, that's my five [Bm] rock albums.
I hope you enjoy listening to them and [D] you'll get around to it.
See [Em] you soon.
Bye.
