Start Jamming...
Just a short time, a short while ago, two or three years ago,
Sister Vestal had just recovered from a bad heart problem
and was sitting on the front seat in the city auditorium
in Nashville, Tennessee, when an old gentleman was wheeled out
on the platform and tried to get him to sing.
They had brought him there in a wheelchair from the hospital.
And we didn't know at that time that NBC was covering the situation.
They were there looking it all over and had the cameras everywhere.
We didn't know, but Vestal, if she had known, she wouldn't have cared.
It didn't bug her at all.
But his name was Cleve-Aunt Derrick, and some of you might have seen it on the news.
A black man that had written many great songs.
And one of his great songs was,
Just a Little Talk with Jesus Makes It Right.
And they were trying to get him to sing his great song,
and he couldn't sing, he couldn't utter a word.
And all at once, Vestal ran from the front of that auditorium
and hit that platform and ran over and began to speak in tongues.
Laid her hands on him and said,
Lord, in the name of Jesus, let this man sing tonight.
And if you were watching, you can remember that it was on NBC.
He began to sing, and he sang the bass all the way through
of his great song, Just a Little Talk with Jesus.
A few weeks later, he made a new album
and lived to see it out on the Word label,
and then he went on to be with the Lord.
And he wrote another song we're going to try to sing for you.
I don't know if Cleavan would sing it like this or not.
In fact, ain't nobody can sing it like we're going to sing it.
You know, I used to
Because Dale McCoy is one of the nicest guys
and one of the best singers I've ever heard.
And Dale, I've told Sam many a time
that I couldn't play the piano like Sam.
That's my brother, you know.
A Liberace, but I could play better than Sam.
And so I might not sing it like a lot of folks would sing it,
but they can't sing it like we do.
And I want to sing for you
We'll Soon Be Done with Troubles and Trials.
