Alright, so those are the names of the strings.
Now I'm going to show you one more way to tune.
So actually I'm going to detune every string except [Gb] the C string.
So let's [Bb] detune the G [C] string.
[E]
[C] Let's detune the E string.
[Ebm]
I'm going to tune it down.
Usually after your ukulele sits for a little while, your strings will be lower, not higher.
They might be higher, but that would be a little weird.
But usually they [B] drop.
[Ab]
So now I'm [Cm] back to my lovely [Fm] out of tune [C] ukulele.
But if I can get one of the strings in tune, or even if I can't, if I just say I'm going
to tune everything to this C string.
So I'm going to assume that C is in tune, which I know it is right now.
But even if it's close, I can still tune up my ukulele without a tuner by using relative tuning.
And I can tune all the other strings to that string.
And the way we're going to do that is I'll go with my G string and I'm going to count
one, two, three, four, five.
Five frets right up here.
And I'm going to put my finger on that fifth fret.
I'll hold that G string down.
[B] And I'm going to tune it until it matches the C string.
[F] [B]
So hold your finger on the G string.
[C] So now they're the same pitch.
[C] So again, it'll sound funny if they're not the same pitch.
It'll sound like this.
You'll hear some wobbly stuff happening.
And then keep turning it until they're the same.
Now on [E] the E string, I'm going to hold the C string down on the fourth fret.
One, two, three, four.
So one fret down from where I was holding the G string.
[Eb]
And I'm going to bring the E string up [Eb]
to that note.
[Cm]
[C]
[E] Almost there.
[C]
[Em]
So what I'm doing here is I'm basically playing an E on the C string.
And then I'm matching that E on the E string, getting the E to match it.
OK, then I'm going to go to the A string.
I know my G, [C] C, and E [A] are in tune.
So I can use the E string to tune the A string.
And what I need to do is go up to the fifth fret, like I did on the G string,
hold the E string down, and get the A string to match that note.
[G] [E] So it's a little low.
[C]
[Am]
That sounds the same.
So now my [C]
ukulele's in tune.
And [D] I didn't have to use a tuner.
I just tuned the ukulele to itself.
But all you have to do to do that is make sure that one of the strings
is pretty close to in tune where you want it.
And then you can tune all the other strings to that string.
All right?
So now we're in tune.
And we're ready to learn how to do some strumming.
