How to sing like a pro.
Hey guys, my name is Ken Tamplin, and welcome to Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy, where the proof
is in the singing.
Now in order for me to be able to teach you how to sing like a pro, I'd better have
achieved professional status myself, and I also better show you that I have students
that have gone from amateur status to professional status.
[N] Now let's be clear on something.
Most professionals themselves don't sing well from a technical standpoint.
So just to sing like a pro doesn't mean you're singing properly or great.
But I have to point out that no matter where you get your information, think about this.
The person giving that information, have they achieved a [Eb] high level of professional status,
and do they demonstrate students that have professional status?
[G] We have over 300 [N]
videos on my channel, with a plethora, which means a lot of students,
on my channel, many of which have achieved awesome professional status.
Now just quickly go to Sarah Loera, check out Gabriela Kunchikova, 10 Second Songs'
Anthony Vincent, [E] Mark Hudson from Dragon Force, I could go on and on and on with a lot of
the students that have applied my course and achieved professional status.
Now what does it mean to become [N] professional, and how do we do it?
Well it has to do with strength training, and the way we think about the voice, and
the way we strength train in order to build enough professional-ism in what it is that
we're doing to be able to sing strong with confidence, night after night, with consistency.
So I have a singing course called How To Sing Better Than Anyone Else, you can check it
out on Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy dot com, and I walk you through step by step what it's
going to take to help you become a professional singer.
Now to be a professional singer, there's lots involved in this, and it's not just only the
physical or musical side, there's a psychological side to this, but I want to show you a few
things that you can do that will be really, really awesome.
Okay?
We're just going to run through a couple of warm-up exercises that will help you understand
how to clean up the voice.
Now, check out my video on diaphragmatic support, check out my video on open throat technique,
it's the [Gb] precursor of what you're going to need to do what we're about to do here [A] at this level.
We're going to sing an A vowel, and the A vowel scale is going to go like this.
A [Db] LAY
[Eb]
AHHHHH
So A and A, and we're going to actually slowly go through this to start to strength train the voice.
Here we [Bb] go.
Ladies, you'll do this up the octave.
[D]
LAY AHHHH
Do this with us [Bb] in octaves.
[Eb]
LAY [A] AHHHHH
Now going between vowels, A and A, help resiliency and the [Eb] ability to relax the cords, and to,
with freedom, be able to go up and down a scale without feeling tension in the throat,
because we want to build strength [B] for the sound.
[C]
LAY AHHHHH
Now you shouldn't feel [N] any tension in the throat.
If you do, it's because you didn't refer to my video on diaphragmatic support, where you,
the engine that drives your car is [B] your stomach.
[C]
[Am] [Eb]
[C] LAY AHHHHH
[Db]
[D]
Do it with me.
LAY [Eb] AHHHHH
LAY
[A] AHHHHH
[D]
[E] [N]
LAY AHHHHH
Now as we do these scales, these scales build strength to help us not with just confidence
psychologically, to know that, oh wow, I can hit those notes, but that we can be consistent,
night after night, hitting those notes and those word phrases.
Now, there's something else that's involved in this, and that [Eb] has to do with what's called
contiguous open throat phrase singing.
What do I mean by that?
That means that we want to keep the throat [E] open through all of our phrases, [G] so that as
we sing phrases, that we're not [N] getting caught and regurgitating, but the throat spasms and
closes off, chokes off the cord, and inhibits our ability to sing through a phrase without
cracking, or messing up, or you know, whatever happens to us when we get nervous when we sing.
So that's the psychological part of this, where all of a sudden we've strength trained
enough, and we understand how to be able to sing certain things, like running a mile.
We can run a mile in a certain time, and we've timed ourselves, and we've done it over
and over again, we go, I got this!
So no matter what song you sing, you've rehearsed it enough, with enough confidence to build
the strength and the ability for you to do this.
Now, I also [Ab] have another video called Stage Fright, or How to Overcome the Fear of Singing
on my website, and that [N] also will contribute to helping you understand [B] how to be an awesome
professional singer, should you decide really to take on the task of doing it.
By the way, there's no quick pill or [N] something that we're going to take, where all of a sudden
we take this pill and we become Superman.
It comes from sweat equity, from putting in the time to really do these things, in order
to be able to achieve that level of success.
So guys, I would appreciate it if you like it, subscribe to my channel, and check out
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy.com, where the proof is in the singing.
Thank you for joining me.
